Does WinAMP have the capability to play mp3s directly off a ZIP drive?

Are you sure about that, Sarge ? If the mp3s are in compressed file on a ZIP disk, I doubt that Winamp can play them directly, you would have to restore the files first. Or am I wrong ?

As long as the mp3s aren't in zip files, you can play them directly off a zip disk. I wouldn't try playing a 256kbps mp3 from a parallel zip drive, though. The parallel connection is a little slow for that.

Yeah, I guess that if the MP3s are uncompressed, you can play them directly. Wouldn't do it though.

Yes, you can play mp3s directly off a Zip drive. I noticed that as you are playing it, the song is buffered into the hard drive for the first few seconds (depending on how large the song is, so I would not recommend scanning through a song while it is buffering). The parallel port Zip sucks, it's really slow. I own two SCSI Zips and a USB one, most of my friends and our school offer internals and they all play mp3s perfectly.
Heck, you can play them off almost any kind of removable media (except maybe tape because it's so damn slow) so long as it's not under compression or anything that'll keep Winamp from playing it. |
