Dynamic Playlist Type Thing...

I want to know if there's a way for me to have some sort of dynamic playlist thing goin on with Winamp. What am I shitting on about? Well...

...say I play a song *click click* [Now playing: The Strokes - 12 Ize of The World] Woo great song etc!
Is there,
1. any way I can just press a key, like say 'alt-c', which will then add it to my playlist?
2. (and is there a way to save the playlist automatically when I close Winamp?)

I've looked at the global hotkeys and the preferences and there's no option there from what I can tell. Is there a way? (or even a better way). How do you all go about making your playlists?

Help!?

Hmmm...
Well, as far as #1 is concerned, the moment you play a song in Winamp, it is automatically added to the playlist. So, unless you only have the main Winamp window open, you won't see it. But the moment you open the Playlist Editor window, you see it.

As far as #2 is concerned, the moment you 'properly' close Winamp (with no unusual or forced shutdown), Winamp saves and remembers all its settings. This also includes what was in the playlist. The playlist is auto-saved as Winamp.m3u in the main Winamp folder. And if you open Winamp again, it will in fact open with any and all songs that were in the playlist when you shut down (unless you double-click on a song file while Winamp is closed, in which case it overwrites Winamp.m3u at that time).

So... to sum it up, both things you asked about are already present and are already default actions in Winamp.

Unless... are you trying to ask something else but haven't worded it properly?

I personally load all songs I want to have in a certain playlist in Winamp. Once they are loaded into the Playlist Editor, and I'm satisfied, I SAVE the playlist, with a UNIQUE name, but I also save it OUTSIDE of any Winamp folder/sub-folder. That way, I can never lose those playlists, in case I have to uninstall/reinstall Winamp.

Hmm that's interesting Bub, I hadn't thought about any Winamp.m3u playlist in the Winamp folder.
It's handy, though a little inconvenient in that its erased every time I double click a song.
It kind of makes the process of creating a growing dynamic playlist, adding a song on a whim, a little tedious...

i.e. being unable to play a song on it's own without having to go to the PE window to play the song after you've enqueued it - otherwise your playlist is wiped.
Or, going through the process of saving it to a seperate .m3u *right click - context menu - enqueue in winamp - save playlist - enter*

It's a shame there's no way to create a '.m3u' in a seperate folder, and then be able to add to it the song currently playing by just pressing a hotkey.
Maybe I should use doubleclick or enter to enqueue..

Good post Bubba, thanks for making it clear and concise. I think i'll just have to be careful to save my playlist before I double-click.

No probs.

Also, for more info on how i go about making my playlists, and how to save them so they won't get overwritten, see my post in another thread HERE.

As an aside, if interested, you may also want to check out Jonas's Dynamic Library plugin.

my logger plugin can do this.

just assign a file to the hotkey and it will put that song into that file. (with options of appending overwriting etc)

(there is a lot more that this guy can do too)

http://crackity.com/mp3logger.html

I used it when I was a dj at a radio station for sorting different songs into playlists while listening to them.... anyhow havent used it in years so hopefully it still works :P

Bloody brilliant! Thank you!

You are a legend crackity! This is perfect, does exactly what I wanted, and I never would've found it.. now I just Ctrl-space and it adds the song to the playlist.
Great plug-in, thumbs up!

Thanks again for your help lads! Lots of good Karma heading your way.
