Bug since 5.2

Hi all
Since version 5.2 winamp displays the ID3 tags wrong.
If a MP3 file contains only ID3 V1 tag, winamp displays some taginfo from the unchecked ID3 V2 panel in the list and in the edit window. I think, it's because of this?:
Quote:
* Improved: [in_mp3] unicode id3 tags
* Improved: [in_mp3] preliminary id3v2.4 support
I'm using 98SE and XP - it happens on both systems.
If you don't know, what i mean, i can post some screenshots.
I hope, this will be fixed soon.

Uhm, not really. It's not only the comment field and this field is also not empty. It's not limited to a specific entry.

If the ID3v2 fields are filled in but grayed-out, it usually means that those are Lyrics3 tags. Could this be the case? If they are Lyrics3 tags, then they'll take precedence over ID3v1 tags.

Lyrics3 tag? What's that?
Anyway, i've attached a screenshot.
Although the ID3 V2 tag is disabeld, it's displayed in the playlist.
btw: Videos in generals are displayed only als "-". Under winamp V5.13 displaying worked 100%...

Did you download these files from somewhere, or did you encode them yourself?

It looks like Lyrics3 tags to me
http://www.id3.org/lyrics3.html
http://www.id3.org/lyrics3200.html

In pre 5.2 there was no way to view/edit Lyrics3 tags in Winamp without a 3rd-party plugin, but since 5.2 the Lyrics3 tags are shown as in your screenshot.

This file was a download. For my self-made files i'm always using ID V1 and ID V2 tag, so i don't have this problem there.
OK, how to "un-display" those Lyrics3 tags like in winamp V5.13?

Kinda tough. You actually have to remove the Lyrics3 tags. First, install Mp3tag. Then follow ara-fat32's instructions in this post in another forum.

Can't winamp just un-display instead of removing it like in 5.13?

Nope. Sorry.
As Egg already indicated above...

So, either live with it or try ara-fat32's method of removal that I mentioned in my above post.

btw... it's not a bug at all really (as your thread indicated). It's a new 'feature' in Winamp.

As already stated, in 5.13 and earlier those Lyrics3 tags would still be displayed in the playlist, but you wouldn't be able to view them in the File Info box like you can in 5.2x.

So what's better? Being able to see the Lyrics3 tags in the Editor, or not seeing them at all and wondering where the hell Winamp is reading the information from?

Lyrics3 tags take precedence over ID3v1 tags, but ID3v2 tags take precedence over Lyrics3, so your other option is to checkmark "ID3v2 tag", then click the "Copy from ID3v1" button, then click "Update".

This "feature" prevents making a playlist with correct titles. This is really annoying - can't you put in an option for disable the representation of Lyric3 tags in the playlist or even in general? Otherwise i must continue using 5.13...

@DJ Egg: No, in older verions you never saw Lyric3 tags in the playlist, nor in the edit box.
It's not bad, to see them in the edit box, they just shouldn't appear in the playlist - even without ID V2.

Support for Lyrics3 tags was broken in 5.13, but was working in all versions prior to that, and was fixed again in 5.2

So it's not up to us to fix anything, but it's up to you to remove the Lyrics3 tags if you don't want them.

Please read again what I said above about Lyrics3 tags taking precedence over ID3v1.
We didn't write the ID3 or Lyrics3 specifications. They're an mp3 standard, and it's always been like that ever since ID3 and Lyrics3 tags have existed.

OK then, is it possible to implement
-an option to disable the displaying of Lyric3 tags in the playlist
or
-possibilities to edit the Lyric3 directly
?

But why was there never a problem with winamp 5.X or 2.X? I got this display probs only since 5.2X...

How many files have you got with this so-called problem?
Have you had these files for a few years (ie. when 2.x was still around)?
Can you zip up one of the files, upload it to some webspace and provide a link here?

Yes, by copying the ID3v1 tag to the v2 tag, as referenced in one of my posts above.

Not sure, but maybe Lyrics3 tag support had been broken for longer than we thought?

Red Mullet, is this your new hobby to tell people that their problems do not exist? Although everybody can reproduce it?

But on the other hand you post "bugs" into the bug channel that nobody can reproduce.

Check your brain for viruses.

Uncheck "Read Lyrics3" in Preferences->Input->Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder->Title/Tags.

If these files are in your media library, you might have to remove them and re-add them, as the media library caches the tags.
