Need beginner advice

Hey there. I have a problem starting out in creating classic and modern Winamp skins. The tutorials I have read don't seem to match my Winamp. I have Winamp 5.24. I adore and love it. I am broadcasting with Shoutcast as I type this. Well, one thing that has confused me is that the tutorials all say that the skins are composed of files like Main.bmp, Titlebar.bmp, Cbuttons.bmp, etc. My Winamp doesn't have those. They are all .pngs for one thing and all different names. My player has the classic and default modern skins as they came in the original install, but the files for the classic look don't seem to even exist. I really want to make skins, even if only for my own learning experience. How do I start skinning for my Winamp 5.24? Any help clearing this up will be greatly apreciated.

Classic skins are made up of bitmaps, main.bmp etc, there are hard coded into the winamp executable.

The PNG files you are seeing are the winamp modern default skin, these are contained in a seperate folder in the main winamp skin directory.

You can download a stand alone version of the classic base skin here..

Or you can use a template skin like skinners atlas

Thank you for helping with that. I was getting scared that I had a version that was non-skinnable or that my system was messing things up. I am going to start experimenting right now. I installed that Skinning Atlas and it really does clarify how the pieces come together. So all I have to do is change the bitmaps, compress to .ZIP, convert to .WSZ, and submit and hope? Coolies! Winamp really does whip the llama's ass! Lets see Windoz Media Player do that.

Yup, that's about it for classic skinning, do spend time reading the atlas tutorials though.
