Set your stereo to 3-channel or surround and cut out the center channel.
That'll cut most of the main vocals, while keeping it from costing you a lot. Don't forget to live before you die.

It's really not something that can be done without spending a lot of money.
To get true karaoke tracks, you need to do what Rocker said, which is either legally expensive or illegally free. What I suggested was a workaround, but you still need a relatively expensive sound system connected to your computer, one that has at least "Dolby Pro-Logic" of "Dolby Digital" surround, where you can choose 3, 5, 6, or 7 channel surround, and then disable the center speaker either by disconnecting it or by turning it's individual volume all the way down while keeping the other speakers at regular volume. If you have that sort of setup but don't know how to use it to do this, tell me what you have and I'll tell you how to do it. Don't forget to live before you die.

Hi,swingdjted and rocker. Thank you very much for your replies! I don't have such fansy setup. I just have a laptop with CoolEdit. So what i want is to directly get some instrumental music online. How can I use P2P to get them?

I've noticed that searching for "kareoke" works better than searching for "karaoke," because most people are idiots.

Listen to Vie.
Using p2p networks should remain legal for sharing non-copyrighted material in my opinion, but that's besides the point I need to reinforce here. Using p2p to get copyrighted stuff is not good. The risk you take (getting caught sharing/downloading copyrighted media) isn't worth it. Many people are stuck making payments on some pretty huge fines because they were busted for it. Plus, getting spyware and adware on your computer is like someone stealing your processor when you aren't looking and putting in a pentium II. Adware will annoy you by throwing ads in your face while you run certain programs, and spyware will compromise your privacy and system security. Both will slow your computer down in multiple ways. Both adware and spyware will kill some RAM, processing speed, bandwidth, and hard drive space too. My best suggestion: Search cd-selling sites and order some discs. Amazon.com, Half.com, Ebay, and others might have what you're looking for. Try used first and then buy new if used is not available. Don't forget to live before you die.

Yeah, you can definately buy Karaoke CDs in Target or Wal-mart, and they aren't super cheap but they're usually cheaper than regular CDs.
