Winamp Portable
I'm interested in creating a "Winamp Portable" - essentially a version of the latest free Winamp, that has been UPXed, and optimised for use on USB devices, ie. doesn't leave registry settings, not drive-letter dependent, etc. Would it be possible for me to do this and redistrubute the modified exes, etc?.
If not, could I distrubute the winamp setup file, and then just unpack it and compress the files, etc.? And if I can't do this, what would you, license-wise, allow me to do? |

That would be a violation of the license agreement, sinc eoyu would be distributing it in it's non-original form.
And there is this already: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....52#post2009652 |

no, thats the u3 specific version

Thanks for you reply, but the version that thread refers to is specifically for the u3 flash drives, and therefore can't be used on generic flash drives, portable HDDs, etc. -- I know that distrubuting modified exes may break the license agreement. I was also enquiring on if I could simply distrubute the un-modified exes, or the setup package(or just refer people to the winamp site for the setup exe), and then simply upx the files as part of a script. In addition, I was wondering if it was possible to get permission to distrubute a modified version of Winamp (free version), with the disclaimer that it is not a official nullsoft build, and is not supported by Nullsoft? regards, Peter |

No, I still believe that would contravene the terms of use.
What you could potentially do is write a script that extracts the files from the NSIS installer, patches them and then repackages them into your portableapp. Cheers, James x |
