Make sure you've latest drivers for graphic, soundcard, chipset.

Also try a Clean Install

If this doesn't help provide more infos about your system.

First, as Koopatrooper indicated... confirm that the problem persists after a clean install with NO extra 3rd-party plugins... Full Uninstall -> Reinstall procedure (aka: clean install)

Please provide the EXACT error message details. That might prove very helpful in resolving the problem. Somewhere in the error 'box' you receive, it will say something like 'To see what data this error report contains, click here'

Click that next time you receive the error. That info will give us the exact error message. Then post the error message directly into your next reply.

Then... if the info revealed in the error message isn't helpful in resolving your problem after we see what it is (and one of us responds), also provide what is asked for in Information required when posting.

Sorry but i dont know about drivers chips etc. I`m not the most computer savvy person. If I do a clean install I`ll lose all of my playlists also right? I lost all of my playlists last time I downloaded the 5.24 upgrade. What a nightmare. And when I upgraded ,my burn speed did not increase to 48x it stayed at 40x. I really like this program but have had alot of problems. It now takes my computer 18-25 minutes to burn a cd at 40x, when it used to take 4 -6 minutes?? If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it Thanks,
Ed

Ed...

Didn't you read this response by me back in June when you started this thread? --> lost playlists when downloaded 5.24

I explained there how to back up your playlists before uninstalling/reinstalling Winamp. If you understood that, you wouldn't be worried about losing any playlists now with a clean install.

Now, if you don't use the method that I use/described in that reply in the other thread back in June, you can alternately use Egg's batch file to backup Winamp settings which includes backing up Media Library playlists.

I also understand that you are not a computer whiz (as you stated), but you do not have to be to provide the exact error message if we are to help you. As I indicated in my above post, please provide the EXACT error message details. That might prove very helpful in resolving your problem.

What you provided above...

c:\docume~1\crazey~1\locals~\temp\8b97_appcompat.txt

...does not contain the error message details.

The details we are looking for will be something similar to this...

AppName: xxxx AppVer: xxxx ModName: xxxx.dll
ModVer: xxxx Offset: xxxx

...where xxxx above will vary.

Again, somewhere in the error 'box' you receive, it will say something like 'To see what data this error report contains, click here'. Click that next time you receive the error. Or, it may instead say something like 'For more information about this error, click here.' Clicking for that info will give us the exact error message. Then post the error message directly into your next reply.

Okay. Now that's an error message I can follow.
The bad news is that a complete and 'clean' uninstall/reinstall usually always fixes ntdll.dll issues. But since you are leary about clean installing again, there was one instance where an individual had the same error as you have, in this thread, and siebe83 showed him how to solve his problem without clean installing, referencing a corrupt Media Library database and deleting main.dat and main.idx, located in your Winamp\Plugins\ml folder.

*Note: make absolutely certain that Winamp is closed/not running when you delete those 2 files from the Winamp\Plugins\ml folder. Also, you may lose playlists that have been saved in the ML instead of elsewhere. I still say that you MUST save your playlists to a folder/folders OUTSIDE of any Winamp folder/folders.

If that works for you, then good. If not, you will have to follow the clean install procedure listed here, step-by-step and to the letter...
Full Uninstall -> Reinstall procedure (aka: clean install)... BUT make certain that you properly save/backup your playlist(s) first.

I'll try and locate a post by one of the moderators here that I recall, where he goes into great detail on how to save/backup your playlist(s). It seems as if you will need more explicit instructions on how to do so, since you are having such a problem following what we have already shown you in that regard.

[EDIT]

Nevermind about my locating that moderator post. Here's what you do before you do anything else...

1) Create a folder outside of any Winamp folder/folders. Perhaps name it 'Playlists'. Create sub-folders if need be, under that one, with artists and/or album names.

2) Open Winamp (if you can). Open your Media Library and your Playlist Editor. Load one of your playlists in the Media Library into the Playlist Editor. While the Playlist Editor is in 'focus', press Ctrl+S. This will open the 'Save Playlist' dialog box.

3) Save your playlist with a unique identifiable name in one of those folders/sub-folders you have created.

REPEAT the above 3 steps for every playlist you have in the Media Library, making sure that you Clear your playlist in the Playlist Editor before loading a new one in (hot key for clearing the Playlist in the Playlist Editor is Ctrl+Shift+Delete while the Playlist Editor is in 'focus')

DONE! You have now backed up/saved all your playlists OUTSIDE of any Winamp folder/sub-folders. You can now either delete main.dat and main.idx (when Winamp is closed), located in your Winamp\Plugins\ml folder.... OR, if that doesn't work, perform a clean install without worries of having lost any playlists. You have them saved and can load them into Winamp any time you need to.

Okay. I see. As I stated a few posts above, you'll now have to alternately use Egg's batch file to backup Winamp settings which includes backing up Media Library playlists.

Then take a chance and delete main.dat and main.idx, located in your Winamp\Plugins\ml folder. Winamp is probably not opening because it's trying to load a corrupt Media Library database. That should rectify that problem. It will recreate those files again, uncorrupted. You'll probably lose your ML playlists though.

Then, as soon as you get your Winamp up and running again (with or without a clean install), save your playlists using the method I described above, numbered 1-3. Always always save your playlist that way in the future. If ever you run into another problem with Winamp, you'll always have them.

main.dat and main.idx only store the database info that appears in the ML local media views. In other words, ML playlists should be preserved.
So yes, try deleting those files and see if that helps.

Making a backup of your settings (including playlists) using Egg's batch file is a good idea in general though.

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

Bubba,
Hey man thanks for your help. I had to do a cean re-install. Seems to be a little better now. I`m now re-doing my playlists, and as you taught me I`m saving my playlists with the ctr -s method in the Pl editor. It will definitely be alot of work ,but I will never lose them again now that they are saved somewhere else in my comp . Again thanks for your patience. You wouldnt know why I only get a burn speed up to 40x and not 48x with 5.2.4?? would you?

Thank you for clearing that up. I now know that the ML playlists will in fact be preserved.
Thanks for the heads-up.

@Ed (crazeyeddie68)...

No probs. Glad you finally worked it out.
All is good now. Cool!

No. Sorry. I don't have a clue as to why that has changed.

Maybe try Winamp 5.25 beta instead of the current public release of 5.24. It may/may not make a difference in that regard. But I can honestly not say for sure. I'm using the latest Beta build and all is good re: burning speed.
