Clicks at the start of tracks
How can I stop the Windows "click" noise at the start of tracks? I just downloaded the latest Winamp and this is the first time this has happened..

Try the DirectSound config tweaks. Although not necessary close Winamp, Windows and reboot the computer after making the DS tweaks. Some have found changes don't take place untill a reboot.
Otherwise, that might be the Media Library's Now Playing section or the Song Info box (bottom of local views) as pages are loaded. Basically the same as Internet Explorer clicks or dings as different pages are loaded. Try this

Double click the Sounds icon (or MultiMedia Icon) in Control Panel
In the Events or Sounds tab scroll down until you see 'Start Navigation' and/or 'Complete Navigation' (something to that effect)
Select (none) as a sound option
Actual steps may vary with your Windows version. No luck? If you have not done so already update the sound drivers. If you have a soundcard go the manufacturer's website for updates. If you have an on board sound chip, go to the website of your computer provider or the manufacturer of the mother board. Close down and restart the computer after installing the updated drivers. Still no luck? Please provide system specs. What do you have for third party Winamp plug-ins (if any)? |

Media Library
After some reinstalation of Winamp this problem apeared to me too. Two click sounds after pushing play button and one after playback end.
I really don't know how it can happen - after many years of non problem functioning (and reinstalling too) of Winamp this arised. I solved it by deactivating automatic switching to "Now Playing" in Winamp preferences, because i never used it and hope i never will.

After a bit of experimenting, it has NOTHING to do with the Windows sound schemes.
It has to do with WINAMP sending/receiving information about the current song playing so it can display in the Now Playing screen, in Media Library. The click you are hearing, is WINAMP, refreshing the song information. I would like to know how to disable this feature, both the sounds without turning off my Windows sound scheme, as well as the sending/receiving of title information. I see there is an AOL Music logo on the Now Playing screen, in the top right corner in the Media Library. What other AOL programs is WINAMP now using? ........I should have stuck with 2.91 I believe........... |

Fixed it.......
Nevermind, solved the problem by telling it I had no internet connection.
Thanks anyway though.

It isn't necessary to tell WinAmp that I have no Internet connection on my system - just make sure "Now Playing" isn't selected. At least in WinAmp 5.24.

Yep. That's right. Since Winamp utilizes whatever version of Internet Explorer you have on your system to display the 'Now Playing' section of the ML, if you have any system sound associated with/effecting IE, you'll also hear that sound when 'Now Playing' refreshes itself, or loads in a new page. If you completely disable any system sound for IE though in Windows system sounds, the problem should go away...
In WinXP, Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Sounds 'tab' > remove any sounds associated with 'Program events' in the dropdown menu that may also effect/apply to Internet Explorer. btw... JonnyMac already referenced this same thing above, in case anyone missed it... Quote:
