Amptron Multimedia Keyboard
Hey, I have an amptron wireless keyboard and mouse and the multimedia hotkeys don't work with anything except WMP and MPClassic. I'm trying to get them to work with winamp. I read a few posts pertaining to this and I don't have Launch Manager or a "players.ini" any solutions? Thanks!

I can't find this global hotkeys setting. I'm using Winamp 2.95 if that makes a difference?

1) 2.95 is old, buggy, and unsupported here 2) Upgrade Winamp from your old 2.95 version to either the current public release (5.24 at the time of this post) or try Winamp 5.25 beta 3) Once the above is done, then... Enable Global hotkeys in Winamp preferences... I have no signature. |

Haha, thanks for the suggestion, but I've never had a problem with 2.95(it's flawless). I used one of the first 5.0s and it was a resource hog and sluggish.
So 2.95 can't work with multimedia hotkeys, is that what you're saying? |

2.95 contained bugs, regardless of whether it's working 'flawlessly' for you or not, and you'll receive absolutely no support for it in these forums. It wasn't even a public release. The unofficial leaked 2.95 was actually a Winamp 5.xx pre-alpha/beta release.
And no, Global hotkeys weren't introduced till much much later in Winamp. 2.95 has no such option. Insofar as Winamp 5.xx being a resource hog, as you say, you can trim it down to suit your needs during the installation process, by UNchecking certain components you feel you will not need. Refer to the Winamp Full Component List during installation, and UNcheck what you don't want/need. You can have a very nicely trimmed-down installation, without any 'resource hogging', and you'll also have your Global Hotkey support, providing that you do not UNcheck Global Hotkey Support (filename: gen_hotkeys.dll) during installation. Also, refer to Like the Wind: Tips and Tweaks for Your Winamp 5 I have no signature. |

Yep. The components coming with Lite are marked with a * in the component list Bubba mentioned above.
Though you could also download the Full version, pick what you need and create your own Lite install. |

Yes. Global Hotkeys were introduced in Winamp 5.0 beta4 11/10/03...
* added user-definable global hotkeys (gen_hotkeys)But there were more Global Hotkey options added in later releases. 5.21 is unsupported too. But you do NOT need Lite at all. Do what I suggested in my post above above with the 'Full' release of the latest version, and effectively you will have a 'Lite' installation, and can add other things you may like, such as Modern skin support and WMA support (by leaving them checked in the installer). yeah, i dunno, something about a 5megabyte installation file is unsettling. it could be installing all sorts of crap in the background.

As you trim it down during the install, it'll be a hell of a lot smaller than 5mb by the time you're done btw... don't worry about stuff being installed in the background. Can't happen. Just UNcheck what you don't want in the installer. Also, if you install a component that you later feel that you don't want, just do this... You can uninstall any plugin while Winamp is running... in Winamp Preferences > Plug-ins. Highlight that plugin and click the 'Uninstall plug-in' button. Alternatively, you can do this... 1) Close Winamp first 2) Browse to your Winamp/Plugins folder on your hard drive 3) Either rename the appropriate ***.dll file to something like ***.dll.off, OR... just delete it or move it out of the Plugins folder. That will effectively have 'removed' the plugin/component and it will no longer exist the next time you start up Winamp. If you are unsure about which ***.dll file needs to be removed, either consult the Winamp Full Component List, or, you can also install the latest release of the 'One for Nunz' plugin (currently One for Nunz v2.7). That will auto-list/append the actual ***.dll names to the plugins listed in Winamp Preferences > Plug-ins for you. I have no signature. |
