Another instant shutdown problem (version 5.24)

Okay, I think I know what caused this, I just don't know how to fix it. I tried to play a file with no name in Winamp, and now I get this
Quote:
Winamp has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
everytime I start Winamp or try to play anything.
Error reports say that it had something to do with 'appcompat.txt'. Can someone help me out?

Do you get any more detailed error messages?

Something like...
AppName: winamp.exe AppVer: *.*.*.* ModName: ******
ModVer: ******* Offset: ********

Do you have any 3rd-party plugins installed?

What exactly is a 'file with no name'? A file must have a filename.

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

Well, a clean reinstall fixed the bug, but just for your info, I recorded a .WAV and accidentally saved it as "".WAV, because I forgot to type the filename.

Without info, all we really can suggest is a clean install of the latest version (5.24).

Otherwise, see here:

An error in nde.dll (= Nullsoft Database Engine) suggests an issue with the ML database.

You could try clearing the database by deleting the files main.dat and main.idx while Winamp is closed. You can find the files here:
C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins\ml

Or, if you chose to keep separate settings for each user during install, here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<yourusername>\Application Data\Winamp\Plugins\ml

If you're running Winamp under a limited user account, make sure you selected 'Separate settings for each user' in the installer options.

If no luck, then you could try a clean install after all (if you haven't done so already).

If you're bored go here or, if the boredom is more serious, here.

That solved the problem for me!
First had problems with ntdll.dll and tried separate user install which gave me the nde.dll error instead. Deleting those files fixed the problem and Winamp is running like it used to.

Thanks

Edit: if it might help development; both files contained blanks but were of size>0 (~ 8 and 204 kb).

Darn,

installing a plugin (tagger 1.1b) while playing gave me the ntdll.dll error again. Winamp crashed but the plugin installed. Anything else to delete?

Sudden WINAMP crash

I am experiencing the very same problems as you all. I just uninstalled and cleaned the reg. Reinstall did nothing to improve the situation. I have no plug-ins other than what 5.3 shipped with.

Something is seriously wrong with this version.

I give up...?
