Batch Normalizing AVI Files

Hello,

I have a project where I had to rip 30+DVDS into DivX AVI format, the problem is that some have the audio real loud and some are real quiet causing major problems when the playlist is running....

I have two questions regarding this:

-Can Winamp (or a plugin of Winamp) import all of my AVI files, and normalize all of them to have a similar volume?

-If Winamp can't do this, does anyone know of something that can?

Thanks!

PS: Also, can someone please tell me if the correct teminology for what I am trying to do is "Normalize" or "Equalize" ?

yes its normalize.

the thing with avi format is anything can be inside of it. and it cannot be tagged specifically and winamp itself doesn't do any of the decoding or output. it just controls it.

if you have ac3 streams in your avi files the audio can be normalized using ac3filter on the fly.

Audio Stream

Thanks for your reply... The Audio codec used in these files is: 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3

Any Ideas on how to normalize 800 files using that codec?!? I've been looking for days with no success

Thanks!
