Storing All media in library?
Hi
apologies if this is a completely obvious thing - very first day of Winamp for me. Is it possible to manage and play from the library files that Winamp itself can't handle? Eg. I could tell Winamp if something has a filename .xyz, don't try to play it, launch WMP when it's clicked on. It would be good if I could organize all my media files in one place. I know from using Firefox that when you've got a plugin system almost anything's possible - just have to find the right plugin. |

I don't believe such a plugin exists.
Maybe you can create a script for ActiveWinamp that adds an entry to the 'Send to' menu to open the selected file in WMP. Though that still won't do exactly what you want, i.e. open specific file formats in a different player automatically. Out of curiosity, what file formats are we talking about? |

It's not one particular format I'm in general I'm looking for yet - since I haven't checked out Winamp thoroughly yet to see what it can and can't handle.
I'm just looking in general for a single solution to managing my media in one place with one system. |

It's a real shame I can't find a library that can do this
I noticed that Itunes can store and manage pdfs in its library - and you can subscribe to some pdf containing feeds in the podcast section (like for Podcast User Magazine) Itunes can't display a pdf so clicking on one launches your defauld pdf reader. This is what gave me the idea that a library should be able to store all my media - even if it can't play it, it could open up the default for things it can store and can't play I'd have thought this would have been a much sought after feature - even if people decided they didn't like the Winamp player, they might still use the library because they could store everything there and it would just use their prefered player when they click on things. |
