Please don't eat the Newbie - Screen flicker/refresh problem w/ 5.31

Pentium 4 HT
Intel GMA
Realtek AC97

Winamp 5.31 Pro
No Shoutcast, Predexis, Video Support, Visualizations, or Streaming Features Installed

Winamp Essentials (only OGG encoder, Predexis Removal)
Gapless Playback (out_nogap)
Musepack (in_mpc)
Transcoder v2.0
MMD3 Skin

A small but irritating issue for your consideration: Every 5 seconds my screen refreshes/flickers with Winamp running. Not running, no flicker. I have AVG & WinPatrol installed, but turn them off and get the same results. Everything else seems to work fine with the exception of a "Could not load script" dialog when switching between Modern Skin and MMD3...hit OK, no problem.

Any and all wisdom and/or time spent replying is greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

(If useful or interesting, here's a HijackThis log of running processes w/ AVG and WinPatrol disabled)

It's set to 'Local Media'.

Sorry, correct that: The flicker/refresh issue occurs with the Media Library set to any of my optical drives (2 physical, one virtual). It doesn't matter if there's media loaded or not. Can this behavior be zapped with preference change or some fiddling in the files?

i assume you've not got the sonic engine installed since that's the only way we've been able to reproduce the issue and as such it is fixed for the next winamp release

Yes I do have it installed...should it not be?

Anyway, I searched the Forums and found some topics discussing the SEE and wnaspi.dll, downloaded the .dll, installed it, deselected the SEE, and tried it out. Seems to work: no flicker and ripped a quick copy of Wish You You Were Here with perfectly acceptable results.

Notwithstanding the upcoming fix mentioned for the new release, does this generally mean if your optical drive can handle it, you should go the DAE route over the SEE?

Thanks otherwise for the hints!
