Sound sensitive visualization

I am interested in displaying different video on a projection screen when my band is playing shows. I really like the visual things that "milkdrop" visualizer on winamp when music plays. There are a series of diferent 3d type effects going on and you can switch between the types and there is a lot of cool visual stuff. The visuals go along with the music being played and I was wondering if there would be a possible way to display these type of visuals on a projector while playing live and have the videa sound sensitive to what we are playing (like it is to what is being played in winamp). maybe the PA could feed into something that would simulate this. Any help would be great thanks a lot.
