*Make It Stop!!* :::Accessing CD Rom:::
everytime i start Winamp (v5.3), it trys to access my cd rom.
Of course nothing is in there, so i get an annoying default DING, everytime it does it. also have to hit cancel in the box that pops up several times before it closes. it's driving me nutz!! ![]() so how do you make Winamp stop trying to access the cd rom? thanks, rob |

if you don't want cd support, delete ml_disc.dll from the winamp\plugins folder.
if you do want, please post your specs, an HijackThis log, and a my_plugins_list.txt the computer is never at fault for an error; a human is, though. DO NOT PM me for tech support. No matter what you're doing, use the right tool for the job! |

First of all, upgrade to 5.31 (see sticky threads at top of Tech Support & Winamp Discussion forums).
What type of drive is your CD-ROM drive? Is it an internal drive, or an external usb drive? Note that ml_disc.dll is just the Media Library Rip & Burn interface. Actual Audio CD support is provided by in_cdda.dll I was maybe thinking that if it's a usb drive then maybe it's something to do with pmp_usb.dll trying to access it, to see if it is a managable drive. Unlikely, but you never know. But if it is the case, then 5.31 will prompt if you want it to manage any usb drives detected, and if you select 'No' then it won't ask you again, and said drive will be added to the exclusion list. What drive letter is the CD-ROM drive? Take a look at this line in winamp.ini (Winamp root folder) [Winamp] cwd=? See if the Current Windows Directory is maybe set to your CD-Rom drive, and if so, change it to something else (eg. C:\Music or whatever). Make sure Winamp is closed before editing winamp.ini Other than that, I'm not really sure what else could be causing the problem. The only two entries in your HJT log which relate to CD-Rom access/detection are: O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Creative Detector] C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector\CTDetect.exe O23 - Service: Creative Service for CDROM Access - Creative Technology Ltd - C:\WINDOWS\system32\CTsvcCDA.EXE You can disable this via: Creative MediaSource Player > Tools: Uncheck "Auto Start" The Creative Service for CDROM Access service can be disabled via Windows Services Control Panel (start > control panel > admin tools > services). Right-click that service, select Properties. Probably best to set the Startup Type to Manual instead of Disabled, just incase you require it (current setting will be Automatic). On a side note, it's also been brought to our attention that the bundled 3rd-party Predixis MusicMagic plugin is incompatible with Internet Explorer 7. You can disable it by deleting ml_xpdxs.dll (Winamp\Plugins folder), and unchecking that feature in the 5.31 Installer Options. |
