.m3u not workin with aacplus?
So, the situation is, I burn a cd to aacplus, using the latest winamp and/or Nero, then create an .m3u playlist. When I click on the .m3u to play it, all the songs list in winamp real quick with 0:00 as time. I put the same playlist in foobar, and it plays. If the .m3u is for mp3 files, it works.
I have even put each song into winamp and they will play that way, then create a new playlist from those files, it still will not play. I am so perplexed by this. I have searched around for days to no avail. Any solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated. |

.m3u not workin with aacplus
Yes, I am using Winamp Pro v 5.31. I have verified a file and the path is correct. This is what I see: C:\Documents and Settings\J\My Documents\My Music\Nero\Selah - Bless The Broken Road\Selah - Softly And Tenderly F- Cynthia Clawson.m4a I just noticed that when I click on the .m3u, then view a file info, the path is listed... however, the tag and all info is not there. If I click on the same file without the m3u it shows the path and all the tag info. I tried to update the tag and it didn't work either. I can play the songs directly in winamp without the m3u.
The playlist is automatically created by winamp upon completion of rip. The same m3u that is created in Winamp that won't play, will play in foobar, if I open the m3u with that. As I have said, I even tried to delete that playlist and create a new one, still no go. However, if it's a playlist for .mp3 it works. BTW: As for the cross post, it wouldn't let me delete one of them. Last edited by Sergio420; 8th November 2006 at 13:30. |

Strange...
Are you using any 3rd-party plugins? Does this problem only occur with m4a files created from that CD? I.e., does the same happen with other m4a files? If I have time I'll try to reproduce this. In the meantime, anyone else ideas? |

m3u not working
No, it seems to be with every cd I've tried. I am using the HE-ACC/MP4. Whether I use Winamp or Nero, then create a playlist manually, this happens. Always plays in Foobar. I have grown quite accustomed to Winamp or I'd just use Foobar all the time. It just seems so strange that the same playlist winamp created will play if opened with Foobar. I have tried every setting known to man.
I am not using any third party plugins. |

I tried to reproduce on a clean install of 5.31, but everything works fine here. Ripped a CD using the MP4/aacPlus encoder, and the m3u playlist created afterwards worked loaded just fine in Winamp.
How are you creating the playlists? Could you attach one of them (by renaming it to txt, or putting it in a zip), to see if it uses relative/absolute paths? Also include info on where the playlist is stored, and where the music files are stored. If it's not a path issue, I really don't know what's going on there. [edit] Never mind, you said the playlist automatically created by Winamp showed the same behaviour. These playlists use relative paths and look for the music files in the folder the m3u is stored in. So unless you moved the playlist file from its original location, this probably isn't a path issue. Anyone else ideas? |

This is starting to get quite annoying. The m3u will work if it's for .mp3's The m3u for HE-AAC Plus only opens in Foobar. I have done a clean install and it still is not working. I tried before I installed anything else.
My music for this particular album is stored here: K:\MEDIA\Music\m4a\Selah - Bless The Broken Road The m3u resides here as well. I'm pretty annoyed that I paid for pro and I can't get one simple issue resolved, for days now. Attached is the info on the m3u. This is with every m3u created by winamp for aacplus. They will open and play in foobar, which totally baffles me. Obviously there is some issue not related to paths or the m3u if it works in foobar. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have installed and uninstalled winamp several times, clean install, to no avail. Many thanks in advance. |

What are your output file settings in the Ripping section of Winamp preferences?
Especially the naming convention: does it have a space at the beginning of the filename? In the M3U you posted, all paths begin with a space. If I load the M3U in Winamp that space is ignored for some reason. So if the files do have a space at the beginning, Winamp won't find them. In Windows Explorer it's not even possible to create a filename beginning with a space. Apparently Winamp can do it, but cannot load these files via a M3U playlist... |

Winamp trims spaces before and after the filename before adding them to the playlist. This would explain the problem.

Also, if Winamp does this, why make an option to create an m3u with these types of files if it doesn't and/or won't work? |

<Artist> - <Album>\<Artist> - <Title>
Doesn't seem to be a space at all. I tried to do a backspace on this and it doesn't move. It's weird that this is the same naming convention used for mp3 and those m3u's will work. Last edited by Sergio420; 13th November 2006 at 17:19. |

It's at the beginning of the filename where the space would be, i.e. just before the <Artist> - <Title> part. If there's no space in that position either, I don't have a clue what's going on.
Do the files themselves indeed have a space at the beginning of the filename? It's hard to see in Windows Explorer, but if you select a file and press F2 to rename you can check by moving the cursor. [edit] Ah, those MP3s were created using the same naming convention? I assumed those were just some MP3s you had laying around... |

For some reason when I looked at the files in Windows, they all had a space at the beginning of the file name. I backspaced all of them, put them in Winamp and created a new m3u, it now works. Now another question.... How do I get winamp to not use a space at the beginning of the file name and/or Nero? Why does it only do this with aacplus and not mp3?
BTW, y'all have been great with the help. So many thanks to you... siebe83 and Benski. |

You're welcome!
Though I really don't have a clue where these spaces are coming from. I only get a space at the beginning of the filename if it's in the naming convention. Moreover, the fact that it only happens for you when encoding to aacPlus and not to mp3 is puzzling. Also the fact that Nero and Winamp show the same behaviour. Dunno, sorry... [edit] You could post a HijackThis log and my_plugins_list to see if that gives some clues. Although I'm not sure what I would be looking for in those logs, you never know... After all, I didn't expect much from the M3U you posted but that gave a clue also. ![]() http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#specs Unless someone else has other/better ideas. |

Many thanks siebe83. It is now working. I am one that can baffle a friend of mine that is a programmer. He always jokes that I should be a tester, cos I always find kinks that no one else runs into. Mind you I am not a noob, either. Oh well, ya just gotta laugh.
Again thanks for your help. Winamp seems to not be putting that space anymore, except for that one album!? |
