Problem copying music from playlist to CD

Problem with the files copied to CD (Media Library ->Send to, then burn to CD) from my playlists. The copied files show as Track01, Track02, etc. (They're lost their file properties). Am I doing this wrong, or is there a work-around. I'm a newbie, so it could easily be the former

Well, you are dealing with two different formats. MP3s have embedded tags (ID3), which store information such as Artist, Album, etc, and display it in mp3 players, both software based, such as winamp, or hardware based, such as an iPod.

However, CD tracks don't have such a facility, and when you burn an audio CD from mp3s, it effectively converts your mp3s to wav, and as such, your ID3 tags no longer exist. The format you describe (Track01, Track02, etc) is the standard CD layout.

When CD track names are displayed by Winamp, it is not because the Artist information is stored on the disc itself, it is because Winamp, or any other player these days, looks up an online database, compares number of tracks and track lengths on the CD to the entries in the database, gets a best match and downloads the information. But if you make a mix CD, no entry for this exists in the database, and no info is returned.

Thanks for answering my initial question.

Are there any plug-ins available that can take MP3 playlists and burn them (as MP3 files) to a CD (or better yet, DVD)? Then, would the choice on the burn process be Data Disk (instead of Audio)?

Second question; Is there a way to copy the MP3 (or WMA) files in my playlist to folders on my hard drive? (The MP3 files are spread over many locations on my drive and the network. I could go out and find each one and copy, but that would be tedious).

Yes I am aware of that. Unfortunately Winamp isn't, as far as I know.

I thought it did now, but only for playing (not burning); am I wrong?
