No Connection ~ Winamp Radio

I have searched through the forums but I have not been able to find this particular problem. Forgive me if I missed it somewhere and am reposting this.

When I go to the Winamp Community Radio page and hit the “click to listen” nothing happened. Winamp opens but all it says is “1. shoutcast-playlist[1]” and no music plays. This only happens on my home PC which is Win XP, fully updated. I’ve no ZoneAlarm Pro anymore as I now have the Norton full protection running and they were incompatible. I have been having this problem for a long time but am now wanting to fix it.

I tried a complete un-install/re-install of Winamp but no love…

Can anyone help me?

A couple of general tips for attaching.

Only certain extensions are supported, easiest all round fix is to zip anything you attach first.
Also, using the Preview button before Submit seems to clear the attach field.

I could not find any "red flags" in your HjT log.

Does Norton Full Protection include a firewall (apparently so by the name)? If so, is it configured to allow Winamp proper/full access?

Hi

Alas, you've got a worm. So let's get rid of that first...

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Update Machine] xvshost.exe

http://www.castlecops.com/startuplist-5365.html

Close all browser, email, explorer, etc windows

Right click the Taskbar, and select 'Task Manager' (or: Ctrl+Alt+Del)
Processes tab: Scroll down the list of running processes
Hi-lite xvshost.exe
Click "End process"

Close & reopen Task Manager
Confirm that xvshost.exe is no longer running.

Run HijackThis again, and click 'Do a system scan only'

In the scan results, place a checkmark next to that one entry ONLY
and click "Fix checked".

Use Windows Explorer to locate and delete C:\Windows\system32\xvshost.exe

(hi-lite xvshost.exe, use shift+delete key to bypass Recycle Bin)

If you can't find it, make sure you can view hidden & system files first via:
Control Panel > Folder Options > View tab.

If it won't let you delete it, use Killbox to delete xvshost.exe on next reboot.

Reboot

Empty Internet Cache again, and delete all Temp files.
(you can use a free app like CCleaner to do this if you wish)

Go to: Winamp > Prefs > File Types
Make sure PLS is selected in the list

Go to: Windows Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types tab
Scroll down for & hi-lite PLS, click Advanced
Make sure the default Action is "Play in Winamp" and that the commandline for it (via Edit) is:

"C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe" "%1"

(assuming Winamp is installed in the default location, otherwise make sure the path is correct)

If the problem persists, please tell us more about what you're doing exactly.

I'm not even sure what "Winamp Community Radio page" is.
Did you mean www.shoutcast.com ?

Are you visiting this page in your internet browser, and if so, then which browser are you using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, Opera, other)?

Or did you mean when you go to:
Winamp > Media Library > Online Services > Shoutcast Radio?

Also include a List of Plugins in your reply (via my_plugins_list.txt)

Also, something (else) from the HjT log that should have caught my attention. If you temporarily disable DAP do still get the issue?

Ok, sorry for the delay in replying…busy few days here.

There seems to be no problem with a firewall, Norton or otherwise.

Killed that worm! Thanks! I didn’t see it…

Cleaned the PC using that Ccleaner. Cool program that.

Reinstalled Winamp. Checked those settings.

Disabled DAP as suggested.

Tried to listen to the music on the “Community Radio” page: http://www.shoutcast.com/newwaradio.phtml

STILL no love!

Damn…

I can get it to play at work though but not at home. I just don’t understand why…
