Flac encoding for SONOS and conversion for Ipod

Hi

Apologies if this query has been asked before (I had a good long look in the forums and could not find it).

I am about to rip my entire CD collection with the FLAC encoder through WINAMP to stream through the SONOS system in my house. I want to use FLAC so that I have a digital copy of my cds. I do not download music, just rip from cds.

However I use an ipod and would like to be able to convert the Flac files into something that can play on my households collection of Ipods (ideally as good as quality as possible). Is this possible?

If not can anyone suggest any other solutions?

Many thanks.

They will be automatically transcoded to a compatible format when you put them on the iPod. MP4/AAC is the recommended format for the iPod.

I have just encoded a cd in winamp and tried sending it to my nano. Winamp says the file format is incompatible. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks - that has sorted it. I downloaded 5.31. Odd considering that I only downloaded it this morning but it seems like I had 5.24 on my system.

I have just checked in itunes and the files gets converted to 128kbps - not really what i wanted as everything that is on my ipod is lossless format at the moment. Is there any way round this?

ipods can play alac files. (apple lossless audio codec)

thats the only lossless format it will play(with the default operating system anyway)

you need an alac encoder for encoding in that format. Winamp can only play alac files, not create them.

you could use itunes or a dbpoweramp plugin found in the link below
http://forum.dbpoweramp.com/showthre...0839#post50839

might want to check the dbpoweramp plugin for ipod compatability with your ipod before re-ripping all your cd's if you are thinking of using it as a alternative.

Go to Winamp > Prefs > Portables > iPod > Transcoding tab
and select the desired bitrate there for MP4/LC-AAC Encoder.

The maximum is 320 kbps

(alas we don't have an apple lossless alac encoder option)

[edit] hi rocker :-)
