Audio extensions only
In the General Preferences -> File Types dialog, I click "Audio Only" but still the MP4 extension remains selected. But we all know MP4 is in fact video...
Don't think that it matters, but for completeness: I'm using Winamp 5.32 Basic Full On XP x64 SP1. No additional plugins. |

At the moment, MP4 support is classed as audio, because Winamp/in_mp4 only supports mp4 audio, not video. So this is expected behaviour and not a bug.
The MP4 container can contain just audio. Both Winamp & iTunes renames the mp4 audio-only extension to .m4a, but Nero still encodes audio-only mp4 with the .mp4 extension. |

MP4 can be audio or video. In fact, you can put pretty much whatever you want in a .mp4 file (even MP3). Plus, Winamp doesn't support MP4 video, as as far as Winamp is concerned it is only Audio.

That doesn't mean it can "steal" the association from my favorite video player. MP4 is audio/video, the fact that Winamp only supports MP4 audio doesn't make it an audio format.
Besides, there are other audio/video containers that support audio-only. Should winamp put them in the audio extensions list, too? |

Then just unselect if you don't want it to be associated with Winamp. As it is, for Winamp MP4 is supported as audio only, so it falls under the Audio and not video category.
