Everything speeds up
Now this is a weird one.
Whenever I use Winamp, it happens randomly or when I double click to start a new song the following happens: First the screen goes black and flickers, then when it comes back on everything is going super fast, the cursor blinks extremely fast, the firewall icon and other Icons flash very fast (but theres no extra activity), all animated gif's go hyperspeed, basically anything animated on the screen goes bizerk. Timers in the computer also speed up, my screensaver comes on in about 15 seconds as opposed to 20 minutes and the screen turns off within a minute. Winamp and music still plays but double clicking doesnt work after it happens, so I have to right click everywhere to do things. Theres also occasions when windows slow right down. For example if I maximise a window from being minimised the top blue title bar goes incredibly slowly up the screen, then once it reaches the top the entire window refreshes and appears, whilst the bar is going up towards the top of the screen to maximise I can't use the computer. I have Winamp 5.24 with no plugins, my computer specs are: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (sp2) BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM Page File: 390MB used, 2071MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode I know it is Winamp because it only ever happens when winamp is on and it can also be triggered when I double click to select a new song. Thankyou for any help |

You have a older version of Winamp. Only current version of Winamp are supported.
Try updating Winamp, the current version is 5.32 (as of this reply). I would suggest a full uninstall > reinstall (AKA clean install) of Winamp for the update. Also, after updating Winamp apply the DirectSound config tweaks. Close & restart Winamp after the DS tweaks. Although not necessary, you may also want to close down Windows and restart the computer after the DS tweaks. Some users have found that changes don't fully take place until a reboot. Still having issue? Please post additional system & Winamp specs. |

Since installing Winamp I applied the Directsound tweaks and instead of the usual problem my computer has locked up completely, twice. The first time the screen went black and the second time it froze solid.
Here are additional specs: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (sp2) Motherboard: Gigabyte 7VAXP Video card: Nvidia Geforce 6600 Sound card: AC97' Onboard sound BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM Page File: 390MB used, 2071MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode Winamp version: 5.32 Now whenever I've restarted after a crash it says a serious error has occured, I've analysed the dump file and put the results in the zip file along with the HJT log. It does mention errors in ntoskrnl.exe. |

I am not sure that we can help you here. Although the problem may come to surface while Winamp is running, the issues you are having looks like a system issue(s) rather then a Winamp issue. Help here is specifically for Winamp.
I could not find any "red flags" in your HjT log. Anyone else? You may want to try the tech support of your computer provider/manufacturer. A couple good forums for general tech support are Tech Support Guy and Suggest A Fix. Although they have been commonly suggested here at Winamp Forums, they are not affiliated with Nullsoft/Winamp. Good Luck |
