I don't think there's any setting within Winamp that can cause a system-wide issue with your sound.
As far as Winamp goes, try these DirectSound output tweaks. Make sure the equalizer (Alt+G) is turned off and you do not have a DSP/Effect plugin selected (Prefs (Ctrl+P) > Plug-ins > DSP/Effect). However, it sounds like more is going on here. Perhaps try reinstalling the soundcard drivers. Did you try rebooting your pc? If no luck... http://forums.winamp.com/showthread....d=161361#specs |

I had this happen too. The problem lies here...
If you look in your DSP/Effect section, you may have the plug in titled: Nullsoft Signal Processing Studio Apparantly this plug-in is HIGHLY dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. I experimented with it and lost mic capability. Then when I got the mic to work again, I recorded a wav file and upon playback, the file played at 1/4 normal speed. I sounded like a dinosaur! Only after going back into that plug-in and clearing it out did i get my system to run normally. Apparantly the .dll associated with this plug-in is a systemwide .dll. Good luck. |

Winamp DSP/Effect plug-ins are "self-contained" and should not be making system changes. Probably just a odd coincidence that your sound issue occurred while using the NSPS plug-in . |

Re: My Sound..
Quote:
you've enabled 24 bit output and you're utilizing some old DSP plugins not supporting 24 bit be sure to not use no DSP and to set DirectSound output plugin on Windows XP and WaveOut on Windows 98 bye
