how to sync ogg files to a portable?
I have a windows mobile 5 portable device that I want to sync my audio files to. When I sync my mp3 collection (via active sync plugin I believe), everything is fine and it works perfectly. When I try to do the same with my ogg files, I get the following error:
"Some of these tracks were of an incompatable format and will not be transferred" I've installed the essentials pack (ie have the ogg encoder) and have tried various settings of with and without transacoding, but nothing seems to work. I have even tried to force winamp to transacode my mp3 files to ogg when syncing, but in that case nothing happens at all. Not even an error message! It just silently does nothing. I am using winamp v5.32. Am I missing something? Anybody got any ideas? Thanks! |

Hmmm. Well, it is good to know that it does work for someone!
I'll just keep trying with different settings! Do I need to install any plugins or anything to make it work? |

Right. I understand this better now.
Basically it seems you cannot sync ogg files using ActiveSync. I installed some software on my PocketPc so that it would show up as a USB Mass Storage Device on my PC (instead of using ActiveSync). Winamp recognises this and CORRECTLY syncs ogg files in this configuration! So: ogg files over USB Mass Storage Devices - works mp3 files over ActiveSync - works ogg files over ActiveSync - DOES NOT WORK I would prefer if the ogg over ActiveSync route worked as I wouldn't have to install extra software (which is not free; I am using a trial version now). Also, with ActiveSync I don't have to "safely disconnect" my PocketPC (which you have to with USB MSD), I can just unplug it (fewer clicks for me!). Anyway, hope that helps someone else .... and maybe Will you can look into this more now?! :-) |

Extra Software Installed
Kghani,
What extra software did you install to transfer your ogg files? I think I have been fighting the same problem with my Motorola Q smartphone. If there is software available I would like to give it a try. Thanks, Curt |

To have my card displayed as a mass storage device, first I installed Card Export II (http://www.softick.com/pocket-pc/cardexport2/). It is not free but you can try the evaluation version.
Then I installed WM5torage (http://www.modaco.com/index.php?auto...&showfile=1702). Does the same job but is free! |

Are there any reasons why a .ogg file could not be synced with Active Sync?
I ripped my CD collection to this format. My HTC TyTN plays .ogg files via Conduits Pocket Player, and I'd rather keep the files in their current format. Thanks |
