Side tracked on the Net?
I was reading another thread here today and got to thinking about if I could find some statistics on crime for an area of the country.
Well it happened... I somehow got to another forum and started reading those threads: http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=649 I'm not in that situation, know of anyone in that situation or really care, but I was reading it anyhow. I think I was reading it because it was foreign to me. Do this happen to anyone else? Suburbia: The place where they clear down trees and then name roads after them |

What?
We (the rest of us humans) call it getting sidetracked. |

When I get sidetracked and start reading something at random, it's almost always a book. Spy thrillers. They're my weakness.
I used to surf around the internet more than I do now and happen upon places at random, but so many kids have taken over that there seems to be not as much interesting stuff left. If only their parents would register in higher numbers... Parents Unite! Join the Internet!

I only get sidetracked by variations of porn.
One minute, I'm browsing the one-on-one section, the next I'm stuck between gonzo and anal

I get sidetracked by networking information sites. . .that and John Grisham novels.

im probably the worst, besides forgetting stuff. i open firefox and in an instant i forget what i was going to look up. also ill go to look something up and think of something else somehow and then when i get off the net about 10 mins later l finally realize that i forgot to look what i first went on the net in the first place. another way i get side tracked. while a page is loading i see my Rss feed of digg just siting there and im like hmm whats new with digg today and then i have like 10 tabs opened.

lol.. that is a horrible thing for a coder..
Some of us find interesting things out..which pulls the focus of our attention away from our objectives.. happens mostly on our time rather than on someone else's.. If it is real bad it called ADHD.. Something else is called multi-tasking where you can continue to move steadily ahead at what you are doing while still processing information and accomplishing another task on the side.. much like being in management or in a position where you are looked to and have many underlings who depend upon your support..Happens mostly with face to face action.. telephone and electronic communication really is out of the picture.. When you are learning about something on the net..you actually search for the most likely result and from those results try to find a source which contains the information you are looking for.. In that process you use the elimination process of which process includes and is not limited to obtaining and emulating any all information that will lead to qualification or dis-qualification for the criterium in which area is desired and sought after. Your looking for the number 3 which is the answer.. A) 1 B) 2 C) 3 D) 4 C by process of elimination by determining through the thought process that in fact A, B and D do not contain in the desired choice.. Short term memory loss can cause an issue in this process for many individuals being that once sidetracked they cannot remember what they were doing or what redirected their attention away from what they are doing.. therefore creating a point where you become counter-productive. This happens in many situations when you have managers and people who communicate and run several tasks at once .. and gave a running stream of interruptions such as a retail environment where the interruptions, or customers are to take priority over the tasks to be performed which also depends upon their promotions and job security..which creates a point of stress triggering the adrenaline and several other chemical reactions within the brain which in some instances can help but in others can actually destroy the aligned thought process.. which in turn can create the irony of actually forgetting after to tally focusing control over yourself and adding one more though on top of the other until the process is lost.. This can be a productive part of management as it can force a non-productive individual into becoming more productive but can also get in the way of someone who is already a motivated, organized, and driven individual..at which point the system will fail..if measures are not taken and properly upper-level management does not identify the actual source of the problem or extenuated problem..if one actually exists..A point where training simply will not suffice but experience and the powers of observation through the many levels of perception will come into play. So in a way what you are doing can harm you but can also broaden your knowledge.. determine for yourself and in what you are trying to accomplish to seem what is within your limits.. what you accept as a point of productivity and given the question this is beginning to bother you. in some way.. so maybe rethinking the process in which you tend you use by habit to search for information and so on....if you read along and do not find what you were looking for then move on..unless its something you want to know |
