Winamp freezes computer
This is so fustrating, if I can't find a resolution I'll literally have no choice but to not use Winamp anymore, since it will just keep happening. I've also tried searching but I can't seem to find anything which is odd since it's a relatively sterotypical problem.
I can open and run Winamp fine, however on very random occasions the computer will just lock solid. The screen stays on but it's completely froze, the mouse doesn't respond, the sound from my speaker stops dead, the keyboard doesn't respond and I have to restart. When I do restart, no error messages come up. It always happens when I'm playing a song (any song) and whenever Winamp is not open the problem NEVER happens. However when it is open, it can happen once an hour or once every 5 mins, it's completely random. It also sometimes happens when I click something on Winamp, like to stop/start a song or to to select a new one. I have Winamp 5.32 with no plugins, my computer specs are: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (sp2) Motherboard: Gigabyte 7VAXP Video card: Nvidia Geforce 6600 Sound card: AC97' Onboard sound BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM Page File: 390MB used, 2071MB available Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode Thanks for any help |

winamp cannot be causing this.
i'd say its a problem with your hardware or drivers, winamp is just setting it off. update all your drivers(from manufacturers website, if its a clone computer you'll have to visit the websites of the makers of the parts) aka http://www.nvidia.com(graphics card) http://www.gigabyte.com.tw (motherboard and integrated stuff) etc... check your computers temperatures using speedfan and make sure its not showing something well over 50C for cpu temperature.(shouldn't be normally that hot) also get your power supply tested and ram tested.(power supply needs testing with a psu tester, ram tested with memtest86) from here i'd say that your running avs and your computer is overheating, or overusing your available power from the power supply(due to poor quality psu, or insufficient rating). |
