Win 2.72: Auto clear playlist when selecting new song?

I just has my comp wiped and reinstalled Win98.
Heres my problem:

I select a song by d-clicking on a file & it appears in playlist, I select another song and it appears at the bottom of the playlist but continues to play the song selected first.

When browseing through my mp3 directory, I would like it to skip to a song I double click on. And another little prob that may be related, when I close winamp and start it up again all the files in the playlist are still there, I'm useto it emptying when either a new song is picked or the program has been reset.
