Winamp 5.35 does not play WMV files...

What's the deal? I've been using Winamp for like eight years now and have never had this problem. I've always been able to drag WMV files into Winamp and they play just fine. Now they don't--ever since I upgraded to version 5. I've reinstalled three times now. When I click preferences, WMV isn't even available. Please help!

Sounds like you didn't install support for it then. Reinstall Winamp 5.35 Full, make sure Windows Media Video (WMV, ASF) is selected in the installer.

There are three options: lite, full and the one with the extra mp3. I always have installed FULL and not changed the defaults. It doesn't make any sense to me.

Please provide a List of Plugins via the One For Nunz plugin / my_plugins_list.txt
(see 2nd link above for details / instructions)

What is your Windows OS?
What version of Windows Media Player is installed?

Is Nullsoft Windows Media Decoder 3.26 (in_wm.dll) listed under:
Winamp > Prefs > Plugins > Input?

If yes, when you hi-lite it and click 'configure',
is WMV listed in the Filetypes list on the right?
If not, click the 'Defaults' button.

Also make sure that WMV is not listed in the Extension List of the DirectShow Decoder (in_dshow.dll) config.

Other than that, the List of Plugins should help us to help you more easily, though we might still need more information, eg. a dxdiag log (see 3rd link above for details).

DJ Egg...

Well, I added "WMV" to teh filetypes list under the Decoder file types and lo and behold, it worked. I have NO idea how it got off of there, but it seems to be working now. Oddly enough, my WMA files wouldn't play before either (even though the extension for WMA was already there); but now they play too. Either way, thank you so much for the help!
