won't allow me to delete song
My little sister was downloading music and now I can't there is a file that she downloaded that won't allow me or won't give me the option to delete. Whenever I right click the file it won't give me the delete option. I even went into My Computer and found the file and tried to delete it and it still didn;t allow me to delete it.
Anyone know what im talking about and/or have a solution? Thanks!

Locate the file again, right-click on it, click 'Properties' Then make certain that the 'Read-only' attribute is UNchecked (not checked). Click first the 'Apply' and then the 'OK' button. Then go ahead and delete the file. Can a moderator please move this to the GD forum? Don't email or PM me concerning Winamp. I was referring to this part of your post...
Quote:
What file type is it exactly? MP3? WMA? OGG? When using My Computer or Windows Explorer, and referencing an MP3 (in this case), this is what you should see when right-clicking and selecting 'Properties'... ![]() Do you see the above option? If so, and the Read-only attribute is UNchecked, you should then be able to delete the file, outside of Winamp, when Winamp is not running. |

yes i am certain i am rightclicking on the mpy icon...every other song/file i rightclick it comes up as shown on your screenshot...But for this particular one it does not give me those options....It only shows the folling options...play in winamp, enqueue in winamp, add to winamps bookmark list, open, add to sync list, add to burn list, add to now playing list, add to playlist..., play with media player, open with..., send to.
Im guessing my sister downloaded one of those virus things and thats why its not allowing me to delete it...When i double click it to play it in winamp a pop up appears stating the file name and says the above file name is invalid. |

Hmmmm...
Okay. I noted that you did not mention any virus 'scan' option in the right-click menu options either. It appears as if you may not even have a decent anti-virus program, since no option for it exists. Try this approach first... All of these online scanners can be trusted. The services are provided by the same companies that you trust when installing their software for local virus protection...If the virus scans reveal nothing, then try booting into Safe mode, and try deleting the file via the command prompt (CMD and browse to it). ADDENDUM...
An afterthought... try RENAMING the file, to a new name with a different extension (something other than old-name.mp3 - perhaps new-name.txt). And then attempt a file deletion. That may work. |

You don't need 'Rename' as a menu option in order to rename files. Simply left-click within the file-name text area (either below or to the right of the icon, depending on your 'view'). You'll then be able to re-type anything at all, for a new name. Then press ENTER. You may receive a 'warning' that changing the file name/type will render the file useless, but who cares? You want to delete it anyway.
