WAV support issue

hello, i've read through all the faqs despite how disorderly they are (that is: wasting my time to make sure i dont waste yours)

when i open winamp and click "open" and browse a music folder only the mp3 files show up and not the wav files. when i click on a wav file (winamp is my default player) it plays fine. how do i get it to "open" wav files?
