Video playback problems

Well, I have tried everything I can think of on this one, and I have read all the posts I can find on the issue. I still get very choppy video playback of avi's with winamp, the same files play flawlessly in wmp and with much, much better clarity. The video seems to have a stutter as in slow, slow, quick, quick slow. Audio is ok, just the video. I have uninstalled reinstalled winamp, divx, klite, and ffdshow many times but with no change in the response. There has to be something within winamp prefs that i need to adjust but I cannot find what it is. I am attaching the bits and bobs requested.

System:
Compaq AP550
P3 863mhz X 2 (dual proc)
512 RAM
Win XP HE Version 2000
SP2

Video 1 (main video output)
NVIDIA Riva TNT2

Video 2 (Extended display for just winamp controls)
Matrox Millenium 2

Audio Card
M-Audio 1010LT
(Onboard sound disabled)

DirectX V9.0c
I have attached the hijack, plugin, and dxdiag logs

Any ideas where to look and fix this issue

Ta in advance

winamp doesn't have many controls for its video support as all the codecs are provided by windows codecs(such as ffdshow). This is the the same decoder used by wmp.

so here's some suggestions

modern skins will use a LOT of resources on your hardware(because your video cards don't support desktop alpha. so modern skins are probably not reccommended for your machine. I suggest changing to classic for starters.

your video card drivers are 4+ years old, so I suggest you update them.(to allow better hardware acceleration if possible)

also you can go to ffdshow video config, and change the avi format that your trying to play and force it to use libvacodec.

Thanks a million for that info, will try those bits out as soon as I get a chance. I kinda thunked that the old cards might be a bit of the problem. Now here is one for you, can you recommend a decent video card (prolly 2, because I use dual screens)obviously this machine is used for disco and karaoke mainly so music and cdg playback works just fine with what I have. The video output is something that I have added to enhance the disco bit, with music videos etc. I digress..... the crux of the matter is that I don't want to put vast resources into video cards, but aslo I don't want to buy real cheapos that may or may not fulfill the task, so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Tried the suggestions, luverly playback now in classic however I will invest in new vid card to get back to the modern skins etc. So any advice on a good dual head or two video cards would be wonderful.
