winamp doesn't open when doubleclicking mp3 file from explorer

Hi,

Since a few days I've had this weird problem. Normally, when I would doubleclick on an mp3 file from within Windows Explorer, Winamp would automatically start and play the mp3.

Now, when I double click on the mp3 file in Windows Explorer, nothing happens. I get no error messages, but Winamp doesn't start either. I have tried every setting in WinAmp's Properties pane, but that doesn't make a difference. The problem even occurs with a default install of Winamp.

I have looked at how Windows Explorer handles mp3 files, and it's set up like this:

As you can see, "Play in Winamp" is the default action, which is what I want.

Anyone got any idea what could cause this? I'm using the latest version of Winamp, 5.35, with Windows XP SP2.

Thanks!

Whoa, that was the problem indeed! I turned that service off a few days ago, to see what would happen. Nothing appeared to happen right away, so I forgot about it ... guess something did happen after all.

Cheers!
