No picture when connecting laptop to TV

Basically, my laptop monitor is damaged so I can no longer use it for anything so I've connected my laptop up to my HDTV with the wire that came with it.

Everything works okay with games and stuff, but when I try to watch video clips on Winamp, Winamp loads up and I get sound from my laptop, but no picture. But when I load the clip in Windows Media Player, I get a perfect picture.

Anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Winamp > Ctrl-P > General Preferences > Video > check or uncheck 'Allow hardware video overlay' > close & restart Winamp
