I have lot of files with an ampersand in the name (e.g. "Abie & Ken - Alone"). However, in the Winamp playlist the ampersand disappears, and becomes a underscore. (It looks like "Abie _Ken" etc.)
Is it a bug, or design feature? |

No, ampersands should be displayed correctly.
Edit the ID3 tags of each relevant MP3 to include the ampersand in the Artist field. (Rt. click playlist entry -> File Info) If this still doesn't work, then the only relevant settings are in: Prefs -> Options : convert %20 / underscore to space in titles. Though I doubt if it's got anything to do with this. It'll be the ID3 tags (or lack of them), for sure. |

OK, Convert %20/underscore did not the work, the problem persists.
I have ampersands also in song names - "Husband & wife", etc.; anyway, I use filenames, not ID3s. When I've checked it again, I saw the result depends on two factors: Only when (1) the file name consists from two languages and (2) the name is longer than the width of the playlist window (… appears to right) -- the ampersand becomes underscore. |

It's %7 currently.
However, this is a bug of Windows GDI, not of Winamp. Whenever Windows cuts ("Abcd…" under "Abcdefghij") a Bi-directional (English + Hebrew, etc.) long label, ampersands are become underscores. Thanks of your help. |

Weird! Sadly though, I don't have Windows' multi-language support installed to test this theory. I don't use any Winamp Language Packs either.
btw, I meant change the ID3 tag title formatting to %7 as well as the normal title formatting above. Default = %1 - %2 (Artist - Title). That's unless you meant the same too? Sorry I couldn't help you more. Have you tried installing any Winamp Language Packs? (winamp.com plugins section) Though, if it is a Windows bug, then there's little anyone here can do. What version of Windows are you using? It doesn't happen to be WinME or Win2k by any chance? |
