Once again, very nice addition Abu!
Will this be implemented in the Preferences in the next major update? |

I just uploaded p20. It has free title formatting. Set titleFormat to 200, then add a line for titleFormatStr, like this:
code: The following new codes are available: <Stars>, <Rating>, <Playcount>. Rating is a number, Stars is 0..5 stars. The rest is like in reverse sync. I was wondering.. is it also possible to have something like: "artistFormat" to tweak the Artist field of the iPod with self-chosen information? That might be handy for some.. One could for example have: titleFormatStr=<Title> - <Artist> artistFormatStr= <Playcount> - <Rating> - <RandomInfo> I dunno.. just a suggestion because it seems like a logical step to introduce? :-) Last edited by Yawg81; 2nd May 2007 at 11:48. |

Well, we could tweak every single string, but I doubt that it makes sense. It messes up the iPod internal sorting routines for the artist list, album list etc. So it is always essential to have the "original" info first. Your example definitely would break something on the iPod, because your artistFormat does not even contain the artist.
One technical reason not to do it: I found one slot in the iTunesDB where I could store the original title. But there are none left for original artist etc... That means, it would be clobbered by iTunes. And I don't want to stand the angry forum posts '...all songs on my iPod have weird artists now... sync wants to replace all my songs...' Yes, you're absolutely right. We don't want an angry mob chasing your guts. :-)
It's fine like it is, indeed. I'm satisfied! ;-) |

Eventually, we'll have a UI to edit this setting. But not for the moment. I want to have fatcerberus1 merge his major changes to the UI first. After that being stable, we can think of additions to the prefs pages...

I wonder about something which maybe could be fixed with mlipod. I use the new title formatting thing and this works great, with scrolling in the title field. But why on earth doesn't the iPod also horizontally scroll the album field as well? This is really a sucky "feature" of the iPod, especially with longer album titles, obviously.. It's weird because the title field scrolls but the rest doesn't...
iPod bug/feature I assume? |

I'm posting simply to say THANK YOU for this feature. It is (no joke) the most useful feature for the iPod right now in my opinion (for my needs at least). I suppose likely because me being a DJ and getting monthly compilation CDs (and never full artist CDs) it was a real pain to go into a compilation CD and not have the listing show artist, now it shows "<Artist> - <Title><Stars>" and it's absolutely perfect

Say, abu, should I add ATF to the GUI? It seems like a pretty well-received feature, so I'd say it's time to increase its visibility...

If you have the time for it, why not. I'm not sure if it's worth it, I figure it's only a handful of people who really like that. And they probably are the freaks anyway, so they don't have a problem with ini-file editing.... ???
I suspect that we will get a lot of complaints about these weird iPod behaviour if it's easy to change this setting. But I'm not sure. Good point. I consider myself an advanced user, and even I have no interest in ATF. Maybe we'll leave it as an .ini-tweak for now...

Thanks for the ATF comments....After all this time thinking about enhancements for the iPod, this was the best feature I could think of. I haven't come up with anything else as interesting yet.
