When I load an EXTM3U playlist of type audio/x-mpegurl, the playlist browser correctly loads both the time and the Title into the playlist browser window. When winamp begins to play each item in the playlist, it replaces the Title w/ the URL to the song itself. I believe this to be a bug. The correct behavior, I think, would be to not replace the title (given from the #EXTINF tags) when playing the song.
Is there a way to control this? Thanks for an awesome product, Seth |

If enabled, the ID3 tags of each individual MP3 linked to in an M3U playlist will override the info provided by any #EXTINF tags once the track begins to play.
Unless you've got access to the actual MP3's, you won't be able to edit the ID3 tags. Sorry, from your given info, I haven't been able to ascertain whether the tracks in these playlists are your own, or someone elses. However, you can control your personal Winamp settings via: Prefs -> Options: Read titles on : Load / Display / Play Sort files on Load (toggle) Prefs -> Input -> MPEG Audio Decoder -> Config Title tab : Use ID3 tags (toggle / change tag display settings) Streaming tab : Enable SHOUTcast title streaming / Include stream name in title |

Thanks for the quick response. First, these are all my mp3s, but, I am streaming them via HTTP (using a M3U playlist). The id3 tags are at the end of the mp3, and winamp doesn't seem to be able to read the id3 tags via the stream. For this reason I used the EXTM3U comments to send the title to winamp.
That all works great. When the playlist initially loads up, all titles and lengths are shown correctly. They are parsed from the EXTINF comments in the M3U file. Once a track begins to play, the title in the playlist browser is changed to the URI of the song's stream. For instance: Before Play: 02 - My Artist - My Song.mp3 At Play: stream_song.php?id=343 It replaces the Title (given from the EXTINF) w/ the last part of the URI of the song's stream. I fiddled w/ the options you pointed out in the previous post, but none of them seemed to have made a difference. I unchecked "include stream name in title" which I would think would be it, but it didn't make a difference. Is this a bug, or is the replacement of the title the expected behavior? Thanks a ton, Seth |

If Winamp can't read the ID3 tags then it will display the path & filename instead.
You'll need to edit the ID3 tags of each individual MP3 in order for it to display the Artist - Title info correctly. You can do this via the File Info tool, but you'll need to edit them from your own HDD, not via stream.

I'd be more than happy to edit my ID3 tags. Unfortunately, it looks as if winamp can't/won't scan to the end of the stream to read the ID3 tag. It makes sense because it's a stream. So even if there /is/ a ID3 tag, because I'm streaming the file via HTTP, winamp isn't able to read it. Is that correct?
I would like to issue a formal change request. If there is a title given (via the EXTM3U comments, or PLS files), winamp should _use_ that title and _not_ replace it with the path & filename as it does not. Otherwise, why give a title in the first place? Was there a reason for replacing title w/ path & filename? Thanks! |

Like I said above, you'll need to edit the ID3 tags of the original MP3's, then upload them again. You cannot edit the ID3 tag of a streamed MP3.
If you use Winamp's inbuilt ID3 tag editor, the tags will then be placed near the beginning of the files & not at the end; thus enabling Winamp to be able to read them via the pre-buffer. Besides, how comes your ID3 tags are at the end of the MP3's? That's not normal, is it? btw, this subject has cropped up many times b4. Some people prefer it one way, some prefer it the other. Ya just can't please all the people all the time! Tho' I agree, it's about time the user was given the choice of one display method or the other, but not just one without the other. Maybe you should post your views on this in the Wishlist forum? |

True, I understand that I can't edit the stream. Luckily, I'm just streaming them off one of my servers, so I'm happy to edit them (although that will take a while
. I don't know why the ID3 tag is at the end of the files. I thought that was normal? I'll definately try out the winamp ID3 tag editor. I'll see if that places the ID3 info at the front, so the stream can pick it up right away.Sorry for the repeat thread. I did look around but didn't see this. I'll definately post this as a wishlist request to the wishlist group (thanks for the hint). You're right, the user should be able to configure that. As a big plus, winamp is one of the most configurable programs in the world. I love it. ![]() Thanks for all your help and pointers! |
