Multiple streams on same server

Hello,

I would like to set up multiple shoutcast streams on the same server. I currently have one shoutcast server with a winamp source running locally.

I was able to get a second shoutcast server running on a different port, but I can't seem to figure out a way to get a different winamp instance to stream different audio to the second server. When I start a second instance of winamp the Output 1 connection just starts going nuts disconnecting and reconnecting. Is there a way to get the second winamp instance to be independent, configuration-wise, from the first? How do you tell the second winamp instance to stream to the second DNAS server and also have it play a different playlist?

Am I doing something wrong? I searched the forums and it just says to run multiple instances of winamp but this seems to not work.

Thanks for your help.

Use a single instance of WinAMP and multiple DSP outputs and encoders to source the same stream at different bitrates.

If you want two totally different source programs, you have to give up anything that uses the soundcard -- this includes crossfading. You'll also want to use the NULL Ouptut output plugin to mute the WinAMP audio of at least one of the source WinAMP programs so you don't lose your mind -- you'll also have to realize that the two DSP instances are NOT independent, so you cannot use the same output number in the different instances.

It's not really a good idea to do this because you may overload the CPU even if you get it to work.

Otherwise, make sure that when running the DNAS on a different port that it is different by at least two ports -- each DNAS uses PortBase and PortBase+1.

When I use a separate winamp instance the second output won't start and the connect button is greyed out. The machine does not have a sound card and winamp is set to use the null output. I suppose this means that you aren't meant to have self-contained servers with multiple streams playing different audio.

I guess it was worth a shot though.

I run five indipendent streams on my server, running five instances of WinAMP each playing a diferent playlist.

Set the first WinAMP's DSP Plugin this way:
Output tab: Output 1, Connect on startup, Address localhost,
Port 8010, Encoder 1.
Encoder tab: Encoder 1, Encoder Type MP3 Encoder
Input tab: Input Device Winamp

Set the second WinAMP's DSP Plugin this way:
Output tab: Output 2, Connect on startup, Address localhost,
Port 8020, Encoder 2.
Encoder tab: Encoder 2, Encoder Type MP3 Encoder, (also check that others encoders are set to None!)
Input tab: Input Device Winamp

Still wondering how to run more than five playlists at once!

On my P4 3.2GHz, 1GBRam, WinXP Pro, 2 instances of OddcastV3 streaming live content from 2 different soundcards, plus metadata updating from external text files = 20-25% CPU. I'll add 2 more live sources next week, and 4 more streams (each source with 2 streams)

The server machine runs 2 instances of DNAS, but they soon will be 8.

Can you please elaborate on the steps?
I see you are using OddcastV3. Would you suggest this as a better alternative to Shoutcast?
You say streaming live content. So you are receiving these feeds on the separate soundcards? Is this required if I want to host either multiple "shows" or same show at different rates?

I'm already up and running with one stream and am ready to go to the next level.

Can you elaborate on the steps for doing this, or point me in the right direction for instructions on this? I'm using Shoutcast Source - should i use something else if I want multiple streams and playlists?

I'm ultimately interested in running multiple streams of different content, and multiple rates for each.

Alright, I found the answer to half of my desire right here http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=73104 . This answers doing multiple stream rates.

Now I just need ability to stream multiple "shows".
