I can't get my locker to download songs to my hard drive! Before posting this I searched the forum and found similar posts. I know you don't use the large download button (that's for downloading to your palm device), I used the small blue down arrow button but it only downloads the text file and not the song. I think the last moderator (DREgg) said, "It works fine for me." Well, I'm happy for him, but it sure doesn't work for me. Any idea what the problem might be? Okay....Okay....It's DJEgg.....but I can't get the moving egg in there anyway, so I might as well screw the whole thing up.

All well and good, but it doesn't work for myself either. I'm running IE 5 on a Windows 2000 machine, Pentium III 800, 256 mgs of ram, yadda yadda..
When I follow their directions for downloading, I simply get a "open file.. or save file" box for a file named download.jsp.. which if you look at your url window on the download page.. its THAT page.. so something is buggy in the scripting.. now, if you do have this problem, you can circumvent it for now (or atleast I can) by doing the following: once you've clicked the download button to your hard drive, and you get the option to open or save as and the file that is being offered is download.jsp, simply say open from current location.. then you will get a SECOND open or save as box that should be offering the correct filename.. at which time of course you can say "save".. |

I have exactly the same problem (bug). I have tried your hint and it works in connection with IE5.5.
Thanks for the only usefull hint. Dregg's link to the standard instructions is useless. We are all here because we have followed the instructions and found that it does not work (bug ???) thanks again --------------------------------------------------------- Quote:

Yeah, but there's also a link to e-mail tech support on that page.
customercare@myplay.com That's where all problems with myplay/locker are dealt with . . . not here! Normally, we deal with Winamp tech support in this forum, not myplay.com html coding errors or Windows/IE screwups. ps. btw, I don't like being referred to as "useless" . . . . . . or, as a matter of fact, dregg either! /pissed off

Dear DJEgg,
I never said you are useless. Just didn't find the link very helpfull. Try and see it from the point of view of us users. 1. assume, from your locker, you want to download an mp.3 file but it doesn't work. All you get is a 14 kb text file. 2. you look for help and click the help button. 3. then you get to the "help topics" page with all the basic instructions. 4. following the instructions (again doing the same things you did in the first place) does not work. 5. next logical step is to look in the FAQ section. No answers there, the subject has not even been touched. 6. you start feeling like the only person on this planet with this problem and look for confirmation in the community. 7. this is magic, the Technical Support Forum - General says: "Search this Forum to find others who have driven down your road and have advice and tips to help you out." 8. at last I found others who had the same bug and one of them could even offer a termporary solution. All I had to do was read and try if it works for me. I tried it and it worked. No reason to send an e-mail to a tech support forum and wait for a reply. I also tried your link but was a bit frustrated when I landed on the "help topics" page again. That is where I started from and found no help. I don't know the difference between "winamp" and "myplay", in fact I am storing my music in "My Winamp Locker". If this hs nothing to do with Winamp, the name, the home page and all the links are very misleading. On the "My Locker" page, the word Winamp, appears 6 times and on the IE frame it says: "Welcome to WINAMP.COM / Locker" Since this is a "Winamp tech support forum" and does not want to deal with "Winamp Locker" problems, you should not allow users to discuss these problem here. I could not find a "Winamp Locker" forum. There is no need be mad. It just shows that there is a bug somewhere and people using the Winamp Locker have a hard time finding locker-related help. Have a nice weekend. Quote:

Okay, apologies accepted, maybe I over-reacted a bit . . . but only a bit
![]() Hey, there's no-one more keen than me to offer tech support, even when it isn't directly related to Winamp Player, but you have to ask nicely! At least I had the courtesy to reply in the first place. Anyway, I've contacted myplay email support on your behalfs. Apparently they answer within one day. I've a feeling it's a problem with either your ISP's handling of the JSP filetype (by not knowing the correct MIME type : application/x-javascript) . . . or it's a Win2k/IE5.5 bug, where you have an erroneous entry for JSP in Windows Folder Options -> File Types (stored in the Registry @ HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jsp) . . . But we'll have to wait to see what myplay support suggests first b4 we start talking about Regedit etc. I've provided this thread's url in my report, so ya never know, someone from myplay.com might reply here. If not, I'll post any info I receive from them via e-mail ASAP. In the meantime, please be patient. ps. I had a lovely weekend . . . did you? |

Thanks for your fast reply.
I can tell, you're keen to help and I (and lots of other users) appreciate your assistance. You see, when I couldn't download the titles I panicked a bit. I have stored lots of music in this locker and after uploading I wiped it off my hard disk to make room. Naturally I was desperate to get help. I have not yet checked the entry in my Registry. I'll wait for your or myplay.com's reply. Thanks again on behalf of all uf us. ps. my weekend was average but nevertheless nice. CU ------------------------------------------------- Quote:

Just letting you all know that I've not yet received a reply from myplay.com support, so I'm bumping this thread back to the top to stop it from slipping away into oblivion.
In the meantime, you can go into the Registry (Start -> Run -> Regedit) and tell me whether this particular key exists: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jsp If so, post all the details here (all strings+data) Especially tell me if there's an entry for the JSP extension in "Folder Options -> File Types" (Start -> Settings), plus all relevant details (description / opens with ? / MIME type / etc) The relevance being that I don't have any such entries in Win95C/98SE whatsoever (in either of Folder Options or HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT). If you do, then this'll be the cause . . . but it's possible that one of your programs requires these settings, so don't change anything yet . . . just report the info here. If there's no such entries, then it leads me back to thinking that it's an ISP config related issue. btw, have you all upgraded to Winamp 2.74 yet? (highly recommended) Or are you still using 2.73 ???????? I've heard there was a bug in 2.73 that interfered with the streaming of DJ mixes from myplay locker, but nothing about it effecting the download function in any way? Besides, like I said earlier, I can't see there being any connection between downloading from myplay.com Locker & Winamp player itself . . . hmm . . . ponderous . . . |

Well, I finally received a reply from myplay support.
Here it is in all its glory: Hello, Thank you for contacting myplay. Apparently there is a bug in IE 5.5 that is preventing you from downloading your music in the proper format. We have found a way around this until Microsoft develops a fix. When you download a track you will be asked to either open from location or save to a disk. Click open from location, then another dialog box will open asking you again to choose either open from location or save to disk. The second time choose save to disk. When you do this a dialog box will open asking you which directory you would like to save the file in. Check the file name and extension, if its .mp3 then the file should download correctly as an mp3 and not an html file. Another thing you can try is right clicking on the track and clicking "Save target as" This should also download the track as an mp3 and not an html file. I hope this works for you! John myplay Customer Care Original Message Follows: ------------------------- Hi, I wonder if you can help me to help others? Basically, I'm a moderator on the winamp.com forums (DJEgg), and this thread has arisen: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=44257 3 different people have posted in this thread stating that they're experiencing a problem whilst trying to download mp3's from their lockers to their Hard Drives. Full details are available by checking out the above url & I would really appreciate any help/advice you can give. All I know is that the download facility works ok for me, but not for them. Therefore I'm assuming that there's no errors at your end with the jsp code, but am more led to believe that the error is either with their ISP's or (more than likely) their Windows/IE5 configuration/s (eg. M$ bugs strike again). They can't get the browser to download the mp3, but instead all they get is the actual jsp file in text format. It works if they click "Open from current location", they then get another download box which leads to the mp3. However, they rightly believe that this should be an automatic process. I was going to suggest that they take a look at the Registry (with Regedit) under H_C_R to see if there was an entry for .jsp and to report back with any existing keys & strings. However, I don't personally have an entry for .jsp in neither my Registry nor Folder Options -> FileTypes, so I don't have much to go on. If it exists, I'd have told them to delete the entry & try again . . . though I thought it'd be best to contact you first on their behalf to see if you can offer any solutions. I'm thinking that the MIME type or EditFlags for filetype .JSP must have something to do with it? I look forward to your reply, Kindest regards, DJ-Egg. ------------------- And there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth! |

Hi DJEgg,
thanks for helping us. Looks like "angiras's" solution corresponds with myplay's recommendation. What I can't understand is "angiras's" claim to use IE 5.0 while I use IE5.5. I have also tried it with Netscape 4.7 amd got the same results. Does that make sense to you ? By the way I checked my Registry, there is no HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jsp)... entry. Puzzled ? Happy Easter |

Very puzzling indeed!
Got anything under: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content\application/x-javascript that refers to the .jsp extension? (mine just has .js but not .jsp) Better still, use the Edit -> Find facility in Regedit to search for .jsp Post any results here! btw, have you tried myplay's second solution yet? eg. instead of clicking the link to the download page, right click the track in my locker & select "Save Target As" Whatever the case, as per usual, it's all Micro$oft's fault. Good luck anyway! The Easter Egg

Downloading from my locker
Hi Everybody
I have had the same problem as all of you, and if you're doing like Angiras it will work without any problems, thanks for that Angiras, you know sometimes people can't see the simple things in life. Uncleburt Von Himpfendinckz |

Is that meant to be some kind of personal witty dig?
![]() Remember . . . workarounds aren't proper solutions! If people don't supply the simple answers to my simple questions, then it doesn't help me whatsoever to find the simple & proper solution! It still doesn't change the fact that this is definitely a bug in IE5.5 & that M$ still suck big time. But like I say, it'll be a simple setting in the Registry that needs adjusting

Looks like the bug is still alive. I haven't had the time to look into this and just got back from a long biz trip. My extension also has just .js
I am downloading with right click on file name, followed by "save as". Will check from time to time in case somebody finds a bugfix. CU Quote:
