Any way to eliminate the small pause between tracks?
Some of my mp3's are parts of 13 or more song lists that shouldn't have pauses. Any thoughts? I'm actually considering mixing them all together with some other tool into one mongo mp3 file. Ugh. Cheers, - Geo |

The pause is only about a tenth of a second. If I were you I'd just get used to it.

Nullsoft gapless output, Crudsoft gapless, Dudsoft gapless, SQRsoft advanced plug ins, and maybe several others allow removing the little gap generated by Winamp between tracks.
However, there are gaps at both ends of mp3 themselves, so you'll need a crossfading or a click removal tool in order to join mp3s together. More info about mp3 in the post http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=44673 And, NeoRenegade, your answer was useless. Pio2001 |

Has anyone actually *tried* any of these "gapless" plugins? Dudsoft's is, well, a dud... it doesn't flush the output buffer so even after you exit winamp, you get random bits of the song that was playing when you stopped. And you can't seek through a file (using the arrow keys) while it's playing, or winamp locks up. And half the time when I exit winamp normally, I get errors.
I've tried the SQR plugin but I don't want a crossfade. I just want one track to play, and when it's done, I want the next track to play. I don't want winamp inserting anything (silence or otherwise) in between my tracks! Is that too much to ask?? And no, there aren't any gaps at the ends of my mp3 files themselves. Pio2001, I'm going to try the other two you mentioned now (Nullsoft's and Crudsoft's). |

As far as I know (I've tried them all), Nullsoft can't stand 48 000 Hz files, and Crudsoft can't stand MP3s (in fact, there is a setting to corrects it, but it is never saved, and you have to go to preferences each time you restart Winamp).
I use SQRsoft, which does act as a gapless plugin when you select the preset "standart" (continuous output). I think I changed something from that preset, maybe "flush on stop/skip" was disabled and I enabled it. It is not very good at 48 000 Hz files (it converts to 44 100, then the soundcard re converts to 48 000), and it clicks on stop, skip and seek. However, it is the best I've found. There was also one called "continuous output", but it couln't stand in_CD Player, it messed up the times and the seeks one track out of two. Anyway, it seems to me that SQRsoft is unstable with in_video, so no one is perfect. In fact, nothing works as soon as you use third party plugins for both input and ouput, because each plugin is debugged for working with Winamp alone, and not with Winamp + another plugin. Pio2001 |

This seems like one of those "so-easy-it's-hard" problems. It's so aggravating... just play one song, then play the next one! If there's a problem with the mp3 format that prevents that, then store the output in a buffer before sending it to the speakers.
It just seems to me that this should be one of the first things that gets done (in a 0.x alpha release), before skins, before visualization, etc. Winamp is an audio player, so shouldn't it play audio right before it does anything else? Shouldn't this be #1 on the to-do list? |

Some of the albums that blend together like that can be found in one piece. Abbey Road, Dark Side of the Moon, etc. They're best if you can get them in one file.
