winamp takes less than 5% of your cpu. i dont think you could ask for much more.

I'd like to meet a mad man who makes it all seem sane
To work out all these troubles and what there is to gain

what do you have a 286? winamp doesnt use much, uneless you are referring to winamp3 which is still in alpha state so theres not much to be done there.

Make sure you are not running any DSP or heavy Vis plug-ins

5%? Not on my machine.
I have 2 systems:
AMD K6-II 450MHz w/64MB SDRAM running Win98
and
AMD K6-II 400MHz w/128MB SDRAM running Win2k Pro (at one time)

The Win98 machine using Winamp and DFX takes ~40% of my processor.
The Win2k machine using Winamp and DFX takes ~30% of my processor.

Other than DFX, I'm not running any other programs along with it.

Now how does that pan out? Is it because Winamp is MMX enhanced or somthing? I know my friend with a P3-500 using winamp, in Win2k, only takes 1-2% of his processor.

Does any other AMD K6-IIer's have this same prob?
Is this a prob with any of the newer AMD chips (like the Athlon, Thunderbird or Duron)?
