An "exclude from watch folder" feature
The "exclude from watch folder" feature will just make able to exclude specific folder from th watch folder, for example if I have some band that I don't want to appear in my media library each time I rescan the watch folders.
I hope that you understand the description.

Not to annoy anyone by bumping a month old thread with zero replies, I second this. I use iTunes to manage my iPod because I've always used iTunes to manage my iPod, and all of my music is in one folder, the iTunes Music folder.
The iTunes Music folder also contains podcasts and half complete downloads, and it can get annoying having to remove them from Winamp's library every time a podcast is downloaded. If I could just exclude two folders iTunes makes, the Downloads and Podcasts folders, then it would be nice. |

Okay, i wanna add my vote as well.
I find it very annoying that all the files in my recycle bin get added as well. Okay, i could empty it, but like so the recycle bin would completely loose its function. |

I agree with this. I have a huge Christmas Song folder in my MP3's folder and the playlist generator love it. I don't. Obviously I do not want to listen to Christmas music right now.

Just a suggestion, but you could make a smartview something like:
type = 0 AND !(filename BEGINS "C:\somefoldernottowatch") Then the files in the folder you don't want to appear won't appear in that view. |

Hey, that's a good way to do it, although some people might prefer the "GUI" way ...
I've got this query: code: Isn't there a way so i don't have to repeat "filename begins" for every folder? |

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any way to shorten that expression.
But, at least it works .

Although the workaround worked fine, I'd like to give this feature request another vote. I let Winamp scan my iTunes library, but don't want to include the Podcasts folder. Indexing all these unwanted podcasts takes so long.

If you generally keep all your music in one/a few folders (not individual folder for each artist/album), if you edit one of the folders in the "Watch Folders" tab under Preferences > Media Library > Local Media, you can uncheck the "Add subfolders" checkmark, and that will keep Winamp from adding any files that are not directly in the folder you specified.

I realize this thread last saw activity over a year ago, but rather than start a duplicate thread, I'm reviving this one.
Please implement exclusions for watch folders! I don't want to totally alter my Media Library "smart views" just to hide certain files or directories -- I don't want them in my library at all. As an example, if I have: E:\full albums\ And I want to include all the music in that folder and all subfolders, but... I also have, down a ways: E:\full albums\Erasure\Singles\Don't Say You Love Me\ Which includes audio that I do want, but also a music video that I don't, And I also have: E:\full albums\Wilson Phillips\The Interviews\ Which is people talking about music, and I don't want to include it either... Then as things stand, unless I'm missing something, my "best option" is to add over 1,000 directories to my library manually, skip the "Watch Folders" entirely, and any time I file my music away, make sure I remember to add it manually to the library, so that I don't (re)index the stuff I don't want. Please at least consider adding the ability to add watch folders with subfolders "except the following specified..." Thank you! |

@winamp developers
Please add this feature!! I've got most of my mp3s (250GB) in an external usb hard disk and I hate to manually have winamp rescan it whenever I reconnect it. And, no, unticking the "Automatically remove missing files" is not an option. |

this would also be a good feature. i also second this.
itunes ppl: If you want to have winamp NOT see your itunes library, just move your itunes library to a folder OTHER then your music folder (ie C:\ or your User folder) and change the location in iTunes. You should only do this if itunes isn't your primary media player; ie you use it just for podcasts or something. |

Given that this request is more than three years old please add this feature, even if it's just out of compassion. |

Hey that's a novel idea, I'll vote for an exclude feature as well.
While are voting on media library features, I'd like to see some real work done on it such as better ways to manage your media. Like when I add music into my library from other programs (like dragging and dropping...), Winamp fails to pick up the ball and add the new tunes to the media library even after rescanning. I have to first clear the media library, then delete the watched folder(s), re-add the watched folder, then rescan. I don't now if this is a bug or what, anyway It's a pain in the arse. recently I'm checking out the player called aimp2 (awesome by the way, better sound too), and they have management tools/services availble to help manage their database. Can't winAmp have better database management tools? I guess I should mention I'm using winAmp 5.6 on windows 7 64-bit, and my hardware and hardware configuration doesn't matter because I KNOW it's working correctly. regards socialoutcast |

That's really easy to do with the actual library.
1) Right-click on your view under local media in the leftmost pane (ie.: I kept the default "audio" one) 2) Select "edit view" 3) Add a condition with : Filename, does not contain, folder name do exclude Filename actually contains the full path name and the file name. I tried it and it works well. However, if the goal is to reduce library loading time, it won't work since this procedure will only add a filter to the all the data imported. |

TerriorMan has it correct. Works perfectly. I'll try to explain it a little better:
1. Right Click: Local Media 2. Choose: Add Smart View 3. Don't do anything except in the bottom where it says "Name" wite in your desired name. This will be added to your Local Media options under the title "Local Media." 4. Choose "ok" 5. You should see your new entry in the Media Library under "Local Media." 6. Right click on your new entry. 7. Choose "edit view." 8. At the bottom of this box, pick "Filters: Two." 9. Now you will have three drop down boxes in the top of the box. Fill them in with the arrow predetermined choices: Filename, Does Not Contain, "Name of folder you want to exclude." 10. "Ok" and that's it. Who says necromancing threads isn't helpful? |

just registered to request this "exlude folders"-option :-)
ok the above method really works *thanks for finding this TerroirMan* - but I still would like to get an option at the "watch folder" to exclude certain folders/files? completly from getting into the library! |
