Winamp 2.73 waveOut plug-in error

I use Winamp all the time but since I installed version 2.73 - though the version did work once - I now get the following error whenever I try to play an MP3 file. I think the error first occurred after I had selected multiple MP3 files from my hard-disk and hit enter in order to load and play them all.

Nullsoft waveOut plug-in v2.3: The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the Capabilities function to determine the supported formats.

I'm using NT4, with winamp as the default music player.

I do hope you can help, I'm lost without Winamp.
