Can't edit tracks now

5.5 seems to have ruined the ability to edit tracks for me. I insert a cd, right-click and pick edit. I click the info button, and then edit to change it top my liking. But then I hit close or the X, and none of the information sticks to the tracks displayed in WinAmp!

How is one supposed to get, edit and set the cddb information?

happened to me to - support doesn't answer - micmisfits = disappointed

Same happened to me to when I updated from 5.35 to 5.5 on WinXP.

I was installing 5.5 pro on WinXP OS 2 weeks ago. No problems occured during the installation - but I could not edit the info when I was ripping CDs. No matter what I tried... So I dediced to uninstall 5.5 and go back to 5.35, but unfortunately you can't run 5.35 anymore. I can install 5.5 though but since I simply can not edit the info I'm really disappointed by 5.5 and lucky me it seems there is someone else.

And by the way I read the FAQ section and the forum (at least lots of it) and the only thread is this one and there is no answer.

LET ME EDIT THE INFO AGAIN!!!!!!

I use the classic skin/layout whatsoever

I'll bump this to the top again. I'm having the same problem and it's driving me crazy. I don't have an internet connection on my home computer so I've always entered all the CD info by hand before I rip it to back it up. Now, Winamp will not let me edit the info and it forced me to rip everything as "unknown artist - unknown...." I can edit the tags once they are MP3's but that isn't much consolation as it takes much longer to do.

I tried to revert back to the previous winamp too, but it gives fatal errors upon loading. Grrr... I've been using Winamp for 10 years and I've never had anything to complain about until now.

Please help me.

You have to have CDDB install (which is apart of the full version) Since it runs the entire interface. I believed this is rectified in the next version to have a simple track editor if CDDB is not fully installed.

workaround / cddb

hi everybody...

install the cddb didn't work properly too - don't now why...

for all the people want to go back to 5.35 - you might try this (no guarantee it will work)

this is how it worked for me finally - and by now there weren't any problems (except for loosing info on previous ripped data (maybe you should save local db before doing this ) :
*run 5.5 - change to classic skin
*install previous version in winamp folder (overwrite yes)
*install 5.5 in different (winamp2 i.e.) folder
*copy exe-files from 5.5 folder into winamp folder (do not copy subfolders)
*change properties of the winamp link on desktop to winamp folder files.
*run winamp
it might crash the first time because of the skin (that why I recommend changing skin first...) just tell him not to keep the recent skin - than wait a couple of seconds - computer messes up all your winamp windows.
*go to preferences remove icon in taskbar, send-to's etc (just change everything that might be in the registry and linked to 'winamp2' folder exe files)
*shutdown winamp
*start winamp
*go to prefs un-change taskbar and so on

this should do the trick
then everything should work like in previous version

to all moderators/programmers:
please don't beat me up for this - but since I have an awful lot to rip - I had to create a frankenstein
till the next update comes along...

cant edit cd info

I have the same trouble of not being able to edit cd nfo in 5.5. an email to winamp support has notgotten any response. I just uninstalled 5.5 and reloaded 5.35. I don't feel an obligation to try to debug their software or wait around for an answer. I need to get work done. There's other alternatives out there also.
