Hi,
I am running Winamp version 2.64 on a Pentium II 233MHz with NT 4.0. This setup has worked fine until last week. I am still able to play CD's through Winamp, but whenever I try to play a .mp3 or .ra file I get a message that says "DirectX 5+ not found". I have Service Pack 3 installed -- so I basically have DirectX 3.0 installed. I am puzzled about why Winamp suddenly thinks it needs DirectX 5 to play these files. Any help would be appreciated, Gopindra |

Goto Prefs (Ctrl+P) -> Output : select WaveOut instead of DirectSound.
WinNT has very poor support for DirectX. You'll need to use DX5 or higher, preferably v7.0a, if you want to use the DirectSound Output. However, you can't with WinNT. Maybe look for the latest Service Pack? Tho' changing the Output back to the default WaveOut will fix your problem for now. |

Hi.
Windows NT4 SP3 and above have DirectX 3 Support. There ars no further DirectX upgrades for NT4 (and according to Microsoft there are no plans to release any, they suggest upgrading to Windows 2000) It is unwise to attempt to install the 9x/ME newer versions of DirectX onto NT4. It will break it! (if it lets you install it at all, that is) So, as DJ Egg pointed out you will have to use the waveOut plugin instead (as Winamp's DirectSound plugin is only compatible with DirectX 5 and newer). Regards. |
