[Monty Python]I wish to register a complaint!![/Monty Python]
http://www.winamp.com/skins/detail.j...omponentFlag=S I think this is a HEAVILY underrated skin. It only earned 2 stars, yet I don't think that it was reviewed properly. This skin is designed to complement the Drempels Wallpaper from the creator of Geiss, Ryan Geiss. Sure, on a machine that doesn't have Drempels running, it looks like hell - a nasty pink color, but trun on Drempels, and watch WinAmp fade into the background... VERY cool. Drempels is available at: http://www.geisswerks.com/drempels/ and looks something like this: Only... It MOVES. MMMMmmmmmm... Tasty eyecandy... This is some of the best eyecandy out there for the PC as far as I am concerned - unfortunately, it currently does not minimize itself to the systray (get a third party app like SysTrayIt!). Anyway, I think that this skin should have the above URLs added to it so that people interested in eyecandy like this know where to look, and the rating redone. Anyone else care to try this out and complain about the rating? And is there someone that I truly can complain to that DOES the ratings? DezertRat kingster@(NOSPAM)cyberdude.com |

Aright - I was in a good mood and downloaded the skin, as well as dremples, restarted, installed, etc. You're right, with dremples on, this is a kickass skin - truly, truly amazing. However, that doesn't change the fact that by itself it's not that great of a skin. Without dremples, it's just an ugly pink base skin.
![]() Im not bashing you, I really like this thing, and will probably leave this on my desktop - It's really cool. But for once, Im on the side of the reviewer. The skin itself is an ugly shade of pink, and for the most part undeveloped. I assume that it is this skin that is linked to on the dremples D/L page, and I think that's the best place for it. Dremples isn't a winamp plugin - this skin is a Dremples plugin. As far as adding the urls, the artist should've done it in his comment. Just my $0.02 Thanks for bringing dremples to my attention tho.

Oh, and you guys, I would've posted a cap for you to see for yourselves w/out the trouble, but the thing is, its impossible w/out going through a buttload of trouble myself. Apparently, dremples 'works' kinda like those bluescreens they do the weather on. I think it changes your background color to that ungly pink, and then projects its image onto that - so that when I screencap, I screencap pink, and the pattern continues to move within photoshop. freaky
![]() I know the explanation's a little hard to follow, D/L it yourself and try a cap. DezertRat, look for a little proggy called Taskbar Wallpaper, (here) make a nasty pink image and select it for your taskbar wallpaper, and put yourself in complete heaven.

Well, any kinda skin that needs u 2 download another programs probably isnt worth the trouble. Besides, this "drempel" thing is doing all the work anyways. Its almost the same thing as skinner.exe skin.

I assume it was meant for people who already have Drempels.
Hipsters like me, for example.

Hesitant to ask but, wtf is a drempel, why do I need it, and should I have heard of this before this post? Um, I must be losing touch ...
![]() And before ya hit me, yes I visited th url up above ... still lost as to the benefits to moi besides having my system resources sucked dry by eye candy. Is that a benefit? Hmmm ... I'm personally saving my system to be sucked dry by the WA3 resource hog.

A bit more on the subject at hand...
Let's clear up a few things:
1. I wish it WASN'T such a resource hog. 2. I don't know the dev of the program or the the skin - just thought that theyu make a very cool combo. 3. Without Drempels, yes, you are right - the skin REALLY sucks. 4. No idea wtf a Drempels is... What is a Geiss? But people LOVED the Geiss visualization (along with G-Force and Whitecap) so I figured that they may like this too... 5. Look at your resources while you are running a heavy-duty visualization like Geiss, G-Force, or Whitecap. Should be fairly comparable to what you get when you run Drempels. 6. I don't advocate resource hogs (in fact I will be the first to kill an offending task in Win2K), however, If I am not doing anything intensive on my machine (800mhz laptop), I have plenty of cycles to go around while checking e-mail. 7. I wish it wasn't such a resource hog!! (Damn it!!) Anyway... Lemme get off my soapbox. I just thought that the skin got an unfair review - maybe a reviewer should put in a conditional comment like 4 stars if used in conjunction. One last thing... BullGawd - thanks for the tip on the Task Bar wallpaper thing. Gonna have ta check it out. Later Dazed.... DezertRat |

And one more thing...
I wish it ....
J/K... BG, I downloaded that Toolbar wallpaper thing... Interestingly enough, Drempels won't draw on it, even if it is the correct color. I can copy th color correctly (must be - when I run Drempels it shows up in Photoshop on the image I created to be my wallpaper). Windows must be doin more the menu/task/start/scroll bars. Who knows. This is enough eycandy for me anyway... DezertRat |

Rat - It works for me - and its really cool.
![]() Duk - I've been running it since I D/L'd it for this post, and haven't noticed any major resource sucking, though I was expecting to have to restart after an hour or so. (I have a PIII 600 w/ 256 RAM tho) I've been workin pretty hard in PSP too, with winamp running 24/7. Geiss caused me a heck of a lot more problems than this does. I'd recommend at least a download to check it out if you're at all into eycandy.

Definitely into eye candy, BG, but I need to keep my system resources running at optimum efficiency. My higher end graphics programs have nearly all system resources allocated to them during operation. My choice would be one of two ... either download this and enjoy the dips and swirls, or not and continue to create dips and swirls of my own. Hmmm ...
