Answer to Video Playing in Incorrect Orientation ?

Hi All.

I am completely new to this forum, and so apologise if the information contained herein is repeated, or no longer relevant.

I have just installed Winamp version 5.51 Build 1763, and was suprised to see the sample video I ran was doing so upside-down. The suggested solutions seemed fairly drastic, and could have potentially messed up other video players installed, hence I decided to play around with the various settings first.

The sample video is a standard MPEG-2 clip, recorded from a DVB-T capture device. The 'File Info.' option displays that the MPEG-2 Decoder used is the Elecard MPEG-2 Decoder, with the Main Concept Video Demultiplexer, and the MPEG-2 Audio Decoder(ffmpeg is not installed).

It was found that by disableing the Hardware Video Overlay (which is enabled by default), the video resumed the correct orientation immediately. By re-enabling, the problem returned. The same happened with two or three other MPEG-2 video clips I have on my system. Thus there is no need to worry/alter any decoders/demultiplexers, nor alter registry settings. However, I am using an NVIDIA GeForce2 video card, not a Roxio device.

I hope the above is of some help to someone.

Regards,

Tim.

PS Disabling the synchronisation option below the one mentioned, also seems to improve things. This may reduce/remove flicker someone apparently was experiencing.

sounds like your problem is buggy mpeg2 decoders.

turning off overlay support will make winamp use more system resources(more cpu time) as its not using your video card to push out the displayed image.

we recommend ffdshow decoders because its small, fairly bug free and it includes most of the basic decoders you need to play video files. Its significantly less drastic than an entire codec pack like cccp or klite.

i've never heard of the mpeg2 decoder your using.

Same proble,m

Well I'm having the exact same problem. My video orientation is upsidedown, and I don't understand why. Please be advised that I've been using winamp since it's first versions, so maybe I didn't scewup, I hope....

Now, winamp indicates that I am using Nullsoft DirectShow Decoder V 1.05

Should I reinstall my decoder anyways?

This anser would be very helpful, I constantly see Celine Dione upsidedown, not a good thing!
