I'm using the latest WinAmp, Win2k + SP1, on a Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop, Xircom RBE-100 NIC connected to a 100Mbit switched network. All the latest drivers. I have a 640kbps DSL Internet service.
When streaming from an Internet Shoutcast server I see laggy network performance (jerky throughput with 1 or 2 second delays) with every network app: browser, telnet, ssh, on the LAN and Internet. The streamed audio plays fine. The Shoutcast stream is taking up about 1/5th my Internet connection and an insignificant part of the LAN, so the problem isn't network congestion. When opening a stream, I see the problem start when the audio begins, and not during the prebuffering which sometimes takes a few seconds. Hit stop and the problem goes away. WinAMP is the only app where I see this problem, and only when streaming. Perhaps an interupt problem? Any ideas? |

Which problem? As you notice laggy network performance within every application it's not this one I guess. Regards, -Søren |

problem = network lag. Winamp streaming is apparently causing network lag which is visible with every network test I run. Stop the winamp stream, the problem goes away. |

Well, I've tried Sonique and FreeAmp streaming and don't get the network lag that I get with WinAmp.
I think there is some odd problem with my laptop hardware/software setup and how WinAmp is coded for network streaming. |

Problem solved
The net lag problem was due to a buggy network driver. An updated driver fixed it.

I get a problem playing audio stream (see below), which creates distortion, such as, high pitched squeals, and skipping.
