5.52 horribly broken?

from the looks of this forum, upgrading to 5.52 was a huge mistake.

What problems are you experiencing exactly?
5.52 is less broken than any previous version.

I've been on these forums for 8 years, and there's always been people claiming that the new version is broken, and there's always people posting problems - but the vast majority of them can't be reproduced, and it invariably turns out that it was either some bad 3rd-party plugin to blame, or bad drivers, malware, or basic user errors, etc.

The R6025 virtual function error seems to be reported when a whole bunch of different features are used. I used to get it my self when trying to scan my library for the playlist generator. This was only occasionally so I could never pin down what was causing it.

Other people have said they get it when they use the Auto-Tagger, play videos, at startup, you get it when ripping a CD. At least you have been sufficiently verbose with details in your other post.

I don't get the problem with the PLG anymore, nor can I reproduce the Auto-Tag problems. I will attempt the CD ripping later but I doubt I can reproduce that either as I don't have the Cisco VPN client.

- adding to the auto tag problem which freezes everytime I tried to tag a bunch of mp3s

- when I click on Lame MP3 writer plugin 1.64 to change the settings I can't listen to mp3 anymore, have to uninstall and install again, loosing many settings along the way

- between 5.51 and 5.52 I lost the Edit CD info (alt + 3) I was used to. Cannot upload or copy an album art this way any more. Instead of a 4 windows item I now have 2 windows (general and id3v1)

- seems that the replay gain thing is not working any more, don't know how to purge former data and calculate again

- and generally I feel unease with this new version and this from the very first second I started using it

- adding to this that I am a proud new pro user and I am frustated to see ads in my winamp. I pay to see ads which is quite unusual in the software industry !

Hope new version will restore things or maybe it is only me who had made something wrong...

@olargues

At least 2 of the problems in your list are caused by some 3rd-party mp3 input plugin you've installed (Tabs missing in 'View File Info' for mp3, RG not working, etc).

And the 3rd-party Lame MP3 Writer (out_lame) is NOT supported here.
You say you've got a Pro registered version, and therefore there's no need for you to use any 3rd-party mp3 output plugin.... you can just use the native LAME MP3 Encoder via: Send To -> Format Converter.

You still have may third-party plugins installed. The most likely culprit for your RG and tag problems in the in_mad plugin which is known to be shit. What does it offer that Nullsoft's in_mp3 doesn't? If you still get problems then tell us what and try removing some of the other plugins.

You don't pay for server bandwidth so you see ads served via the embedded IE page. If you really object then you can block them, search for the thread which lists the URLs you should block.

Yup, the 3rd-party in_mad plugin is definitely the cause of olargues' File Info and RG problems.

There is absolutely no benefit in or reason to use in_mad any more.
Nullsoft in_mp3 supports 24bit, RG, APEv2, etc etc.

I see that you've also got WaveOut Output (out_wave) active, which isn't recommended on Win2k/XP/Vista, and you should switch to DirectSound Output (out_ds) instead.

Although I'm not aware of any problems with the Enhancer dsp plugin, also try setting DSP/Effects plugins to "None", just to confirm that it's not the cause of any of the problems (eg. many dsp plugins won't work if you've enabled the 24bit playback option in Winamp -> Prefs -> Playback).

And what the hell is this?

Thank you very much both of you.

Removed in_mad and indeed everything's back to normal I think
Also removed out_wave and duplicate remover. Everything's working fine.

Enhancer seems to work fine and I like the sound coming out of it.

It means that as far as I am concerned ... 5.52 has no problem !!!

Will have a look at the ads related messages.

Once again thank you very much. You rock !!!
