anyone know where printed info on do it yourself web radio setup is?

Hi I've seen Deshi's youtube vid on setting up a web radio however there are lots of un-answered questions I have from what should the specs be for both pc towers used, the mix board isn't an issue but how many patch cords do I need? and How and or can i put a link to the server(shoutcast) on my soon to be website, etc. I'm dumb as hell but I'm willing to give it a shot, can anyone of you techies out there help me to find where I might find an abc printed plan and list the info on the web is diverse but no one seems to have tied it all in like web radio set up for dummies, Thanks all(don't take knowledge for granted - grant it........) Daniel

I once smoothly ran a SHOUTcast station from a PC with a 700MHz Pentium III and 128MB of RAM (on Windows Server 2003). However, I wasn't using any fancy mixers or anything -- I just played random songs, with an occasional pre-recorded DJ announcement.

This is a sig of some nature.

The real miracle of that is not that you ran shoutcast, but that you ran server 2k3 on that machine.

Never underestimate the bandwidth of a station wagon full of tapes hurtling down the highway.

And I still am. I needed to have an NT-based OS to make compatibility easier (I suck too much at Linux). Win2k is outdated and XP ran too slow, so my only choice was Win Server 2k3. It's been running for 2 months now without a reboot, and still works like a charm.

Server 2003 ran faster than XP? Odd. It's a pretty big animal.

Really? We have 2k3 on some massive machines here. I guess it depends on what services you have running.

At our district we do to, but if a single user is using 2k3 on a computer and you don't have a lot of connections to it, etc it doesn't need very much requirements.

I'm also seeing a problem with almost all the "web radio" software, like Pirate and others. They limit you on the amount of listeners to just a few unless you use a server like shoutcast, which I plan to use but there are several other software installs nec. first like SAm, Cool edit pro2,VNC, etc. I've installed skpe so my listeners can call in but still have yet to get a second tower and sound blasteraudigy cards in each, or at least the second tower. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhh! No one has the step by step 1,2,3 plan written everyone is plugging their own stuff and leaving it there, forget about amazon books....... Daniel

If you can trivially get at the console to install VNC, you might not actually need it.

If you do, it'll take all of 5 minutes to install, the same with cool edit, although for an editor on Windows, I have to suggest Crimson Editor.

Anyway, that kind of stuff is just basic server software. No big deal.

We do, although only internally, since it's not a secure protocol unless you tunnel it over ssh.

We recently installed an IP based kvm so we use that if off campus.

Yeah, ours is only used internally however it's not tunneled over ssh. We just have it encrypted and it's only on the beta web server. It saves me from working in the back room all the time and it's a lot cheaper than a kvm switch
