WinAmp closes whenever I plug my MP3 Player to my computer
Title speaks for itself.
I bought a Samsung YP-P2 and I've noticed WinAmp's being reacting oddly since I first plugged it in. Whenever I run WinAmp it shuts down after 5-6 seconds or so. Any help would be appreciated. |

YUP! I've got the same problem
Whenever I plug my sensae260r into the computer, winamp dumps. I like the new winamp upgrade but the old winamp version actually works.
This is a very clean install. Windows XP, complete updates and the computer is less than a week old. The PC is Compaq with 2Gig of memory, nothing really special or unique. Everything else on the computer works including Windows Media Player 11, Rhapsody Player (both came with the pc), itunes. This is a winamp problem for sure...especially given the fact that this issue is showing up in multiple places in this forum. My only fix because I'm not a guru techie is to use a different media player or don't plug in your mp3 player when you're using winamp. Greg Newell www.trackableresults.com |

Addendum: I removed all the player plugins. You can't use winamp to sync with your player but at least you can run winamp without it crashing. There's got to be an issue with the playforsure addin and compatibility with the player. Also, I am not using any drivers with my player. Windows just recoginzes the player and the folders. If I want to play music from the player, I just open windows explorer and drill down to the songs I want to play and play them.

mastomas,
I'm betting that if you go to winamp preferences and uninstall the portable device plut-ins (under Plug-ins / Portables) then winamp will work just fine. That's what I had to do. Greg |

It's the playforsure plugin. I've had the same problem with a Samsung yp-p2. I removed all portable device plugins then reinstalled winamp selecting individual plugins. As soon as I got to the playforsure, plugging the ypp2 in with winamp running, winamp is shut down.

My new solution is to use Songbird instead of winamp - a shame as I like winamp, but songbird supports my YP-P2, and is a good player on its own.

You are correct Volden (see my previous post) but I want to be able to use my MP3 device with Winamp - I can manage it with Songbird instead so I've moved over to that now.

Portable Devices plugins
I was having the same problem with my mp3 player crashing Winamp after upgrading to ver. 5.54.
I uninstalled the portable devices plugins, and now Winamp doesn't recognized my player at all!

Well, yeah. If you remove the thing that recognizes portable players, then Winamp won't recognize portable players.
