XP and Broadcasting

Just looking for some feedback on this......

I was just told that XP can not be used as a base to run shoutcast because it only allows 10 connections. I did some researching on the Internet and could not find anything on this. So I came here, whoelse would know better?

So is there anyone here using XP? Any problems connecting 10 or more?

You won't find anything because it's not true.

There was an issue with the original XP w/SP2, that has long since been fixed.

I figured as much.

As a follow up, wondering if I am thinking this right, the only limit to the number of connections is the amount of free RAM the PC that is playing the stream has and the bit rate it is playing the stream at right?

Well, I have experienced that if you have a router that is old enough, between a server PC, and a connection to 1000+ ppl, it can get quite ugly... Older routers have problems keeping too many connections at once. Might just have been my router tho.

other than that, you CPU, RAM and connection is the only limits... oh, and you need a 8800GTX card of course :P

Free RAM is not very important because a connection does not consume much RAM.

You can configure a million connections (listeners) in the DNAS, and it will work fine, but the number you can actually support is based only on your outbound bandwidth -- it has to be greater than listeners x bitrate. If the number of listeners exceed your bandwidth at any instant, ALL your connected listeners will begin to underrun and rebuffer your stream until the number of listeners decreases to the correct number.

The DNAS can certainly support more listeners/connections than your outbound bandwidth can ever allow.
